Terrible UI, but works great
JonathanWoahn
I serached for a bit for the right app for me—primarily a) cheap and b) I could build a playlist. This one fit the bill of the available option ($5 v $10 for others).I read the reviews, saw the terrible ratings. I’m more technically saavy than most, and decided based on what I read most of the issues were likely user errors, so I decided to give it a shot.It identified my tv immediately, and it took me about 2 minutes to figure out the interface, but once I did—it’s working perfectly. My feedback to the developers on where my biggest challenges were:1) It was totally NOT intuitive that I had to add items to the playlist AND then select them in order to play them. You should make it so that as soon as an item is in the playlist, it should be available to play. Then, I’d allow users to drop and drag in the playlist and reorder videos. Highlight the one that is currently playing, and then as a user, I just assume anything below the highlighted item will play next. Take a page from VLC, I think they’ve done it well.2) The positioning of the menus is terrible. When I hover over playlist, it opens up on the left side, and if i even move out of the window area for 0.1ms, it closes. It takes me at least 3 times every time to get to where i want to go. I’d recommend on your next revision that you guys put some work into how the playlist / add files situation works.3) It ALSO was totally not intuitive that I had to select my tv. I can see how if you have more than 1 tv it makes sense, but if you just have 1 on your network, it should just automatically select the one tv.4) ADDING THIS IN AFTER GETTING TO THE END OF A VIDEO: The playlist TOTALLY doesn’t work as expected. I’d expect the app to just run through all video files in the playlist. But it doesn’t, instead when the video is done, I have to go to the playlist and select the next file in the playlist I want to play. Which is better than having to manually add the next video again, but TOTALLY not what I’d anticipate. That’s a HUGE misstep, and honestly, for as terrible as everything else is, this is the dealbreaker for me—I could put up with everything else.To recap, this is how I’d expect it to work.1) I add an item to the playlist, and then I can hit the play button and it starts playing on my tv and cycles through the playlist. That’s all. If I have to do anything else, then you’re doing something wrong and losing users.Good luck!
Replaced using Beamer + Apple TV 4K with this and a Samsung 6 Series TV

This has a lousy user interface, it is in an ugly little drop down menu in the menu bar, but after I upgraded from an Apple TV 3G to an Apple TV 4K the streaming from Beamer started dropping out. I picked this up to try it out and it worked flawlessly. The picture quality is superb, the stream started very quickly, and it took just 30 seconds to figure out the awful user interface. I’d recommend this on pure functionality alone. I’d also recommend the developer work on the UI. It feels more at home in a desktop like KDE than in MacOS.
