A good Slack alternative, room to grow

I was looking and most of the reviews here (all negative) are 2 years old. I thought I'd offer a more recent review. I was using the free tier of Slack with multiple users. The recent shift on Slack's free option to limit the chat history to 90-days was a total deal breaker and the monthly cost for all the users was more than what I wanted to pay in a chat platform.I test several competitors, and thought that Cliq was the closest in functionality, interface, etc. It's missing a few items - formatting text isn't as simple, but the Markdown works pretty well, no bullets though - but I've been pretty happy since the switch. The web version and desktop app have been stable, the iPhone app works (though I don't really use it much) and the overall organization is clean and simple. When I've had questions, tech support has been easy to contact and very helpful. The free tier is very generous, so I would say it's time to give it another look.
Complete waste of time

if a meeting is set at 11:30. and if you are early and want to start the meeting early, you cannot do that. the meeting invites dont have the link to join. you will need to find the email in our inbox. and assuming you get 400 emails a day. you will take more time to find which email has the link to join that particular meeting. and the meeting link will ask your name and email again even though the link is sent to you.. this software is at least 5 years behind of thier competitor. it is not meant for regular users to use..
Most bulky App

Cliq being the most bulky app i have ever used. It get's stuck every now and then. The developer has no intention to update it. Even though it says an app but it is just a wrapper of web app. They're trying to compete with Slack & Microsoft Teams but they're yet to maintain the quality like them.
