The app seemed solid based on the ratings, so I gave it a shot.Here’s the thing though—to actually chat with people, you need to pay. That’s the main feature, and it’s behind a paywall. Plus, there’s no way to test your level or figure out where to start. On Duolingo you can take placement tests, but here you’re kind of on your own.The lesson interface is pretty basic and could use some work. And when you’re browsing people to chat with, you can’t filter by language or country, which would be super helpful.That said, the concept is solid. If you want to practice with real people and don’t mind paying, it’s a decent option. Just wish the free version let you actually talk to someone instead of just setting up your profile.Worth trying if you’re intermediate or higher and ready to pay.

Please add more language options like Hebrew (modern and biblical) and Yiddish. I can be helping people out with my language skills, but I have no option to add the languages I’m fluent with. Hope to see this changed ASAP — it shouldn’t be too difficult for the developers to implement a way to let users select from a list of many more languages and/or add languages by typing them in ourselves. I was very happy to find that most people using this app are either genuinely interested in learning or improving a language or want to meet people from a different cultures. This is a great platform to expose yourself to other parts of the world without leaving the city. If you are traveling/studying abroad, I can imagine how this could be a great place to make friends and make the most of your time here as well. The app is very well designed and easy to navigate. Will definitely keep using it to improve my french :)

This update includes clearer onboarding, improved language selection, new practice reminder settings, and a better Maya experience. Maya now appears online as your always-available AI language tutor, ready to help you practice anytime.
We’ve also improved profile setup guidance and made general usability updates based on feedback from real learners and QA testers. More refinements are coming soon.
