Great App then Contrast came along...

I agree with most other reviews about this app, it’s a pretty cool app, and with the release of contrast paints I was doubly excited to see that they incorporated them into the app as well showing step by step how to paint the model using contrast paints. I looked at the Blood Angels Intercessor. First at the photo showing the results of the “classic” method of painting the miniature, and then I looked at the “contrast” method photo, and said to myself “Wow! I can get the exact same results from using the contrast paints as I would if I painted it using the classic method! That’s amazing! They look almost exactly alike!” Then I realized both photos of the model supposedly showing two different painting methods was the exact same photo! There is not even the slightest of difference between the two photos. While the app does not say that the model in the photo was painted with contrast paints, the app certainly implies that the results will be exactly the same. Which is not realistic at all, and at the very least is misleading. I’m certain this was done so it would not curtail sales of the new product line. While I still think the app is very useful for painting( it’s the only reason I gave it 3 stars), this obvious attempt by Games Workshop/ Citadel to mislead its customers is a slap in the face! Shame on you Games Workshop / Citadel!!! Everyone knows that GW as a company is out to make money, but I never thought I’d see you stoop to something this low. Wow!

Well I'm a photographer by trade and when I initially played with the I thought photo tool was a little limited. I could not grab a photo from my library. When I was selecting a color scheme it wouldn't let me save or create at a custom one. There is also only a limited selection of preprinted model examples to draw my inspiration from.... but then, I decided to tape a picture of an image on my computer. WOW! The app came up with several preprinted color schemes and one of them was spot on! It was painted on a jet pack but it gave me step by instructions. The image was made of 2 distinct colors and shades there of. The the app knew that and found a scheme incorporating both of them wonderfully!!! While I think The app could use some flushing out like a section for airbrush or wet blending It more than impressed me! I am absolutely heading to my awesome new Warhammer Store (shout out to Store #94!!!) To pick up the paints as soon I I get off work!... P.S. I'm writing this review at work since I couldn't wait to post!

Update wiped out all my paint data

Edit: updating my review since after I rebooted my phone (for unrelated reasons) now all my data is showing up in the app. Apparently some issue in first install, but not permanent. Updated my rating back to 5 stars, as well. My needs might be simple, but it does them perfectly. I was actually using the app to archive all the paints I've purchased and a wishlist for paints I'd like to get. However with the recent update, all that data is put in was wiped out. When I load it up now, I'm t says I have no paints and nothing in my wishlist. This means now I have to go through all my paints and update it again. Sure, not a huge amount of work, but wastes about 15 minutes of my time. The wishlist however is just gone. I used the app so I wouldn't have to remember. I was expecting that to be a reliable place to save such things. For doing those two things it was actually a pretty decent solution. Now I don't know if I can trust it not to lose everything again. If you can't trust it to save your list, why use it to store your lists?

EDIT: Thank you devs for listening! Today’s update makes the color call outs MUCH easier to find and the “View Color” button is very handy. I’m going up to five stars for the app since it is a very nice tool for all things GW. I do hope they replace some of the images with actual contrast-painted versions.I have been using this app since launch, and I am a big fan of the version up until this “contrast” update. It’s still an excellent app, but just needs a little work. I appreciate the addition of the Projects save space and the new way of grouping the steps such as base, shade, and layer will be huge help to new painters. But there are the things I wish they’d improve:A) the photos in the Contrast sections are the same as the “Classic”, and were all painted using the classic system. So you have no idea what the recommended colors will really look like on the model.B) The tiny little white circles on the chosen color are too hard to find in many cases. Please replace with some sort of arrow and off model tag.C) Please bring back the dry brush tabs. Many of us had projects started that still want to reference that technique for models still to be painted.D) I agree with others that more models from the other GW ranges such as Necromunda and LotR would be great.E) in the My Projects section you can tag and add colors used on your own models. Perhaps I missed it, but it would be great if you could add some text for your own reminder, such as which models or sections used that color.
