Update: After 6 months of waiting, they have finally fix the issue below, so now I can finally advance in the program! I am so happy!!! Therefore, even though it took nearly six months from my first report of the issue to get it fixed, I will still give it 5 stars now since I love the app. Next time if there is an issue, I hope it doesn’t take this long to resolve the issue!!!!!At first I loved this app, and that’s why I paid lifetime membership of $100. I start learning Chinese. The I get to test one and can’t pass the first test because of a bug. Whenever there is a real life speaker, you have to put the words in order of the way it was spoken. It also says to put spaces between the words; however, there is no option for spaces; therefore answers are marked incorrect because words are slurred together. I first reported this on December 13, 2019. LingoDeer Support contacted me and said thank you for reporting, and it would be resolved with the next update. They have had several updates since December, and It is still not resolved. So I tried to go on the computer to take the test. Needless to say there is another type of glitch that will not allow me to pass the test. I reported that, and it is still not fixed either. They are so proud to present customers with The new Fluent Chinese; however, the app doesn’t allow users to get past the Test 1 beginner. IF YOU ARE BUYING THIS TO LEARN CHINESE DON’T!!! You won’t be able to continue learning. I want a refund!!!!!

I really recommend lingo deer! The lessons are really easy to follow and the voice overs are great; by a Japanese person! unlike duo lingo, this app specializes in asian languages and literature, so you wont embarrass yourself (that bad) having small talk with someone who speaks fluent Japanese after learning some basic introductions. You can easily review lessons, even ones you've aced, and its so satisfying every time to get better and better at spelling out sentences like “I am Japanese.” or “I am not British.” I like how lingo deer has articles in the notification center that don't take you to any webpages when you click on a highlighted piece—you stay within the app; either going to a certain section in the same article or another article. The articles are also super aesthetically appealing and scroll smoothly (no centering the screen or zooming out only to be sent to the start/end of the article). The articles are free as well, giving you so much information without a subscription, letting you decide if you want to become a member or not. I also appreciate how the articles aren't bland, they have some personality to them from the author! its a very engaging AND accurate app that I highly recommend getting and using. this isn’t sponsored btw, I know it sounds like it but I'm literally a 14 year old who wants to learn japanese because I'm part japanese and want to be able to watch anime without subtitles and read manga in Japanese ^_^enough about recommendation, I really love this app and it really works for me!
One of the best apps out there for language learning

If you took some of the more popular text books and made it an interactive app. This would be it. As such you should use this like you would an interactive text book: as a starting point. LingoDeer explains grammar very well and the exercises are simple and engaging but drill in the grammar and limited vocabulary they are teaching you. There is a small story for each chapter. The stories are short and interesting enough. I do wish there were more. If you are interested in learning a language I would probably recommend starting here. I want to be clear though, you can’t learn a language with an app alone. You have talk to yourself through out the day in your target language it might be as simple as narrating your actives, “ me levanto y me capillo mis dientes” I wake up and brush my teeth. Then, as soon as you can start reading and then summarizing what you read and asking questions. Pros - Grammar instruction is king. Short simple and easy to understand, Interactive, works, app feels easy and well made. CON - Lingodeer’s vocabulary is just too small per lesson. Add in another 5 or 10 words per day and use them to tell a story, use AI to write you a story using your daily vocabulary and read. Plus where does this vocabulary come from? Why am I learning “Peach and Pear” before House?

I’m learning Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese ( I’ve been learning Japanese on and off for years). I’m happy that the app realizes that with Japanese, hiragana, katakana, and kanji are apart of what is NEEDED to learn and the system does the work. They make sure you’re in. And for my Portuguese, I have two apps and book teaching me. I find that this one gets straight to the point in a way that could rival babbel. I feel the need to come directly to this app for some study everyday. I get grammar notes ( which yesss, give me more grammar.. I think I can handle it). Lastly... I didn’t knock it down a star because this is me almost comparing it to a company that offers something that lingodeer didn’t say that they would be pursuing but I really wish they had a lab like duo lingo. I want to learn to read. I want more resources for learning the language. I want to be able to open the app. Give me another reason to stay here. ( which honestly...This is the best application). One last gripe actually... that again is not worth knocking stars down. Portuguese is very phonetic like English, however it is only phonetic if you know the alphabet ( or spanish)... add an alphabet. It helps with pronunciation and being able to spontaneously pronounce/spell out words. Include alphabet and pronunciation with these Romance languages. Just like with Japanese, they require differences in how we go about learning them. Pleaseeeeeeee. Especially pronunciation help...
Major update for JAPANESE learners:
High-quality NATIVE SPEAKER VIDEOS now available in Lessons, Practice, and Reviews!
Natural speed, clear pronunciation, multiple speakers — everything you need to boost your listening comprehension skills.
