Great app. Power of positive thinking is very powerful. Powerful in good ways. The regular news these days that is full of bad things happening can cause many people to create a false reality in their mind of such an awful world, when really it’s all how you look at it. Bad things have been happening for a long time and the same bad things always happen but the regular news just shows it happening to different people. It’s a phycological formula that news stations know about because our brains and how they are naturally wired to do with fear etc. Good for the people who created Good News. I truly believe Simple things like not watching the negative happenings and only indulging into positive articles and just enjoying the life you live and see through your eyes and mindful of the actual air your breathing and tuning all of that other stuff out really summarizes the cut and dry equation to true peace and curing depression etc.

I’m still actively giving this a shot, but so far, it seems like this has the same problem a lot of “good news” distributors. The stories generally show a very thin silver lining to depressing issues, and the optimism is ultimately lost. The discovery of a extremely small population of animals in a species that is rapidly going extinct regardless; organizations providing small and limited relief to huge populations of trafficking victims; undeveloped and minor scientific findings for huge environmental issues whose main cause is corporate negligence. So on. It ultimately ends up as a showcase for extremely horrible and distressing situations, and only totes treatments for symptoms rather than solutions. It’s good if you’re looking for quick daily refreshers of current issues. But ultimately, in trying to draw awareness and attention to important discussions (albeit a noble task), the stated goal of the app is lost. Reading about sexual abuse and animal cruelty doesn’t feel great. I leave the app feeling worse, which is the exact opposite of what I was hoping for. Will continue to use and see if I get a different impression over time.

I laughed when my uncle told me about the Good News app he downloaded on his daughters phone (only had 300 reviews, compared to your average app having tens of thousands), so we all sat and downloaded it. And I will say, it’s one of the only notifications I consistently open. Constantly seeing negative headlines discourages from opening news apps in the first place. Thanks for this small channel, I think it’s great for kids interested in world news with a lighter tone, and I’ve also been enjoying it as 30yo woman.

This review is not going to be popular. I love the idea of this app. I'm sick of all the bad things happening in the world and I needed a relief from the mainstream news. However, many of the articles presented in this app are categorized as "good news," but in reality their content is "good" specifically from the socially progressive viewpoint. That is to say, they're good news if you're a neoliberal. E.g., I don't consider updates on the progression of trans culture to be good news. (I don't condone hatred or violence toward trans people either.) I just think this is something worth considering when downloading this app. Perhaps the app could offer an option for users to filter out the articles that are considered "good news" for political reasons. Let's leave politics out of this.
