Flint Eats is a mobile application that was designed by researchers at Michigan State University and residents in Flint, Michigan. The app was designed with four goals in mind:
1) To provide Flint residents with a way to share information about the quality and cost of food available from Local Food Retailers;
2) To provide Flint residents with a way to share knowledge about food preparation and nutritional value;
3) To provide Flint retailers with an opportunity to advertise affordable, healthy food to Flint residents;
4) To create incentives for food retailers in Flint to provide healthy, high quality food in safe, friendly, accessible environments.
The app provides a map-based interface, indicating where all Local Food Retailers are located (including farmer’s markets and corner stores), and a social feed where people can create and discuss different types of food related content, including deals and tips, and in subsequent releases, reviews and recipes. The app also includes a reference library where people can learn about foods and retailers in Flint.
Enhanced Navigation: We’ve optimized our cluster mapping technology to provide a faster, more intuitive, and smoother browsing experience when searching for resources.
Expanded Network: Our directory has been significantly updated to include the latest fresh food locations, community pantries, and vital resource hubs across the city.
Community Connection: Introducing new interactive chat boards, designed to help users share information and support one another in real-time.
Enhanced User Profiles: Manage your experience with updated profile features designed for greater personalization and ease of use.
Integrated Event Calendar: Stay informed with our new, centralized event calendar, featuring all local food initiatives, workshops, and community gatherings.
