Let MetaImage take care of your images metadata on Mac. Instead of manually editing data for every picture in the Photos app, you get a completely automated flow. Handle every tag format — including EXIF, IPTC, and XMP. Flexibly add GPS coordinates. Create presets and apply the same changes to multiple pictures.
- Over 5000 tags supported
You can get your hands on all the tags. If you search the Mac App Store, Metalmage is the only tool available with a support for MakerNotes, EXIF IPTC, XMP, and tons of other tags within one interface. So it’s definitely the right tool to consolidate your metadata work on a Mac.
- EVERY IMAGE FORMAT YOU NEED
Forget about converting, this tool handles all the images you give it. Move your file to the app window and start editing right away. Metalmage works with over 90 of image formats, including HEIC, JPEG, PNG, RAW, CR2, CR3, TIFF, and many more.
- GPS TAGGING SUPPORT
Easily add GPS coordinates to your images. You can either type in the name of the location and let the app find it, click on the map, or copy the address from another file. MetaImage also allows you to restore previous locations and search by GPS tags.
- CREATE TAILORED PRESETS
With Metalmage, you not only batch edit images metadata, but automate the full flow. Based on specific characteristics, create presets and use them for recurring editions. Most likely, many of your edits will be the same. So the more presets you make, the more time you save.
- PHOTOS EXTENSION
You can go through all the metadata without leaving your Photos app. MetaImage has a Photos extension that allows to read all kinds of data, including EXIF, XMP, IPTC, and MakerNote. Whenever you need to make changes, upload a photo to the app and fix the metadata instantly.
- YOU OWN THE EXPERIENCE
Decide which tags should be displayed in the app, based on what you’re used to work with. Browse tags and choose your preferred ones. You can customize the tags displayed in Metalmage and the Photos extension separately.
- GET HELP WITHIN THE APP
MetaImage is designed so that just anyone can pick it up and use it, particularly if you have even a rudimentary knowledge of photography. However, if something isn’t clear, you can submit feedback or ask questions within the app itself.

Really excellent tool for film photography
Huxley Dunsany
I’ve been getting more and more into film photography - first with an old Minolta X-700 I found at a yard sale a few years ago, and more recently with a big chonky Mamiya RB67 medium format camera. I’m fortunate to have a great local film lab to develop and scan my negatives, but it’s been increasingly frustrating that Adobe Lightroom CC has no meaningful way to add or correct the metadata about these images - something that has to be done manually since vintage film cameras aren’t capable. This app is a powerful solution to this annoying problem. I’m an amateur with this stuff and I’m pretty sure I’ll never use all the capabilities found in MetaImage, but for my needs, it’s a great way to add the missing details that make it way easier to categorize and find my pics later, keep track of which camera / lens / exposure / film stock I used, etc. Really great app, and well deserving of its strong rating!
A pretty good app

I’m not a pro photographer, so some (many) of the features are unimportant to me. I have scanned in a number of old photos and I wanted to enter dates, places, keywords, and captions. It has presets that l could use for several of the features, for example, camera, good. I could not create a preset for a location. For Photos, the IPTC Captions is the same as the descriptions in Photos. This is on a separate menu. I wish there was a preset for IPTC Caption, date, keyword, and location. All of that is pretty good, as many reviewers have also reported. I would not advise editing too many photos before processing, converting, overwriting, or saving. It has crashed many times. I’m slowly noting some patterns, but I shudder each time I hit the Process, overwrite all edited files. I’d add one more star just for this. I’d add another star if the presets were more customizable.Update: This is still pretty good. If I update while the cursor is on the “caption”, this will crash the program. In comparing with other EXIF editors, this may have the cleanest windows for the EXIF and IPTC data. Also, the developer contact me shortly after I posted my review, for this, I’m increasing my rating.

This is the one I have been waiiting for

When Marc Rochkind stoped developing ExifChanger I needed an alternative and after trying a few, THIS IS THE ONE. Complete suite of tags (more than I'll evern need) and a very functional interface (once you get used to all its features).A recent enhancement addresses a particular need of mine which is to copy/paste GPS info from iPhone photos to photos from a camera without GPS. I make sure the camera is time-synced and then I can put the mixed batch into MetaImage and sort by Exif Create Date. That way the camera photos are adjacent to the iPhone photos and copy/paste is a breeze. Adding GPS is also a breeze but you might heopful to set Preferences/Map Type to Hybrid to really nail down your location. All in all, this app will make my project of scanning and embedding info into hundreds of old family slides and negative something I am no longer dreading.

Works Great - Very Pleased

New Review As of 2023. This app simply gets better. The app simply works. Read more below. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Beware of overly negative reviews here in the App Store. Most people either really like an app or really do not like an app, and those people will write many paragraphs to tell their story of why they like or hate an app. Watch out for "one-liners"I have many images from the past that I need to place on a map. Now I can get that done. The map is just what I was looking for. I needed the Hybrid Satellite map so I could see the roads, but also lakes and streams that are not on a road map. In short the map works great. One request to the developer. Please make the map remember my last zoom level and my last position. That will assist me when I am dealing with photos that are in the same general area. Excellent job createing a useful app.

Hi GuyLock,Thank you very much for your very motivating comment! The zoom changes you discovered (when you make a position change) is indeed an issue. We will fix it in the future update. One more time, thank you very much for your contribution to the project.
- New Features: Introducing a new action in the GPS menu bar called « Resolve Missing Data ». This action scans all imported files and identifies the file lacking GPS information. It then uses the location of the nearest Exif:DateTimeOriginal file to complete the data.
- Bug Fixes: Resolved an issue causing crashes when searching text through metadata.
- Bug Fixes: Several minor issues have been addressed, improving overall stability and performance.
