I have tried numerous identity, theft, protection, apps, and software over the years. Nothing has come close to being as user-friendly and robust as the ID shield app. But my favorite part is the fact that the licensed private investigators do the work to put your life back together when you do become a victim of identity theft. So many other products out there make you do all the work, or send you a do it yourself kit with a one 800 number that rings in the Philippines.

Works as advertised but…

Overall the platform works well enough alerting you to potential risks, exposures etc. However, if you have any sort of inquires soft or hard these can and will affect your credit on some level. I realize this has nothing to do with ID Shield. The reason for the 4 star rating is although customer service is trying to be helpful they simply do not possess the level of intel when asking about credit score dips. My score has been in the 800’s for years and have been fortunate enough to not miss payments. There have been a few occasions where my score has dropped 50-70 points in a month (for no apparent reason). When I call to gain clarity on why I don’t find reasons or solutions. They (customer service) simply tell me we do not see delinquent payments on our end. My next question to CS is can a credit inquiry affect a score that dramatically? They typically say ,”no, it should only move maybe 5-10 pts. It will then bounce back.” Well that hasn’t been the case. In summary my feedback is to understand on a granular level what is truly driving score changes.

Terrible Redesign

I’ve been a customer for several years. Up until recently I was quite pleased with the service and app/website. It was easy to navigate and understand. But, then they decided to burn the house down (that’s how I see it). In doing so, they took nothing from the old house (ie. everything I had them monitoring) and seemed to have used someone with no app design experience to create this new version. Let’s start with the fact that there was NO communication to customers (a heads up) that this overhaul was coming and no information/instructions on how we were going to have to sign in, in a new way. Suddenly a new app and website were just out there and I could not get into either with the poor instructions that were provided on the login screen, and then I had to remember to call durning the workday for assistance since they don’t provide 24hr customer service for technical issues. Then when I finally did speak with someone I’m told I have to re-enter all the stuff I had them monitoring because, like I mentioned earlier, they burned the house down and couldn’t be bothered to move things from one platform to the other. If I recall correctly the person I spoke with said it was all still sitting in the old platform, so yeah, I’m feeling real confident in their ability to protect my info and identity after this fiasco. The new app and website both present a terrible design that’s not easy to navigate and a poor presentation of what’s there compared to the previous platform. As this is paid for via my work benefits, I’m suddenly receiving notifications via my work email (where I do not want to get them) instead of my personal email, which is where I received them before. I’ve reviewed my communication preferences more times than I can count to try to change this, but haven’t had any luck. Also, I used to get notifications and badges on my iPhone but that’s disappeared too, even though they’re still enabled. For the life of me, I can’t understand how anyone would have given this redesign their approval. It’s horrible and I so wish I could go back to the previous design/version. If this is all still terrible when benefits sign up rolls around again, I’ll be cancelling and finding another service to monitor my identity.

Identity theft isn’t personal

People say all the time that they don’t have anything. No one would want their credit - But nothing could be further from the fact that when you get hit, your world is turned upside down and I for one don’t want to be the one to try to “fix” the problem. I’m not willing to give up the money and hours it would take to untangle that mess. IDShield? Way cheaper to let them handle it!! Thanks for keeping my stress level down!!
