WayAndSee
You know where you have been
$2.99
The automatic scratch-map ("Fog Of War" style) and trail-time-tracker! Get points for visited places and areas. Harmless fun - and useful, too! Designed for "lazy use".
Travel around and the map will uncover itself, tracking your way!
Get SeeScore points for visited places, areas etc. use GameCenter to share with others and friends
See travelled distance and the time needed per motion.
WayAndSee is designed for „lazy use" (just let it run in the background) and AUTOMATICALLY answers the usual questions:
WHERE did I go?
WHEN did it happen?
HOW did I get there?
HOW LONG did it take?
WHAT did I see?
HOW MANY SeeScore points did I get?
WHERE:
Uncovers the world as you travel through it. Lists all visited continents, oceans, countries, cities, landmarks etc..
WHEN:
You see your itineraries of the last 10 days on the main map.
All dates are stored and can be listed per year, month, day... or you can keep track of specific days by naming them (e.g., all days of "2022 Visit to Apple").
And of course you can see the data on a detailed map.
HOW:
On devices which support CoreMotion (almost all iPhones/iPads), WayAndSee colors the tracks on the map showing how you moved (walking, running, cycling, driving by car etc.).
Per day and motion, WayAndSee shows the distance traveled and the time this took.
WHAT:
By tapping on a place in a list, you get the results of a Wikipedia search for this place. We love Wikipedia and will continue to support it.
You can also see your photos filtered for the selected days or places.
HOW MANY SeeScore points:
For each visited place (continent, country, city, landmark etc.) and visited area you will earn SeeScore points.
In an overview, you get the points for today, yesterday and In total. A list of all details is also available. You can send out a SeeScoreCard to share your achievements with others.
No cheating - you really have to go there!
There is no upload function or similar to cheat on the points. The only way to earn points is to travel with your device through the world.
DATA PRIVACY:
We are committed to data privacy!
Our business is software - not data!
Therefore: WE DO NOT WANT YOUR DATA!
We will not copy, move, transfer, send, sell, exchange etc.. We do not need it! We do not want it! We do not take it!
Your data will stay here on this device. And you do not have to register to any website. We do not need this ... as we do not want your data!
Your data stays private!
OPERATIONAL MODES / BATTERY DRAIN:
WayAndSee uses the standard IOS Location service to track your location, even if WayAndSee runs in the background.
Please note that this will drain the battery on top of your further use of the device.
To give you a way to manage this drain, WayAndSee offers two operational modes:
BEST BATTERY:
Takes single location samples every several minutes.
This is good enough to track which area you have visited but of course will not provide a continuous track of your itinerary.
This will reduce the battery drain to the least possible minimum.
BEST TRACK:
Continuously tracks your itinerary through the world.
This is the most accurate mode and will show you exactly (within the limits of the GPS system) which way you took.
Of course this will drain the battery much more than "Best Battery", as the GPS hardware of your iPhone/iPad will be powered up all the time.
See AUTO RESTART to learn how to optimize this mode.
AUTO RESTART:
Additional mode to "Best Battery" or "Best Track".
Auto Restart starts and stops the location tracking automatically by looking at your movements. There is no need for location tracking when you are staying at the same place or the device rests on a table.
In such situations, WayAndSee pauses the location tracking and will restart after your device moves again. This will limit the battery drain.
PLEASE NOTE:
"Best Battery" and "Auto Restart" need the authorization of "Always" access to your location, even in when running in the background. Both methods use IOS functions which need this authorization.

more Developers are justing making this app for fun, no Ads, location tracking is accurate and allow you to see where you have been in a war fog style! I was thinking about making one but oh well, since someone already made it, I might as well just use it.Good job, nicely doneUpdate for reply:Your daughter has the right thinking as a future developer :) Ohh there are so many things sync could open up: scoreboard for family, upload pictures for place which worths the memory, backup for new device...I am excited to see the new update!
Developer Response Thank you so much for this comment. It's always good to hear something nice from another developer. My daughter asked me to develop WayAndSee, so I will give the praise also to her ;-)The next version will include iCloud synchronization between the devices ... I'm curious if you will like that as well.

Love this app and the ability to track where you have been, and what is left to explore. Love that it tracks cities, states, grids, etc. Been using it for a month and really enjoy it.
Developer Response Hello Explore8595, hanks for your review. Your enthusiasm and recognition are an enormous incentive for us.. thank you very much!!

Thank you for ur response I’ll have patience
Developer Response Yes, you can get around the problem if you set up the new iPhone from the data backup of the old device. WayAndSee’s data is backed up with every data backup…. And yes, we want to use iCloud to store data off-device. We already had a solution, but it wasn't good. That's why we're currently rewriting the code with a new approach. A little more patience... it's coming! 🙂

1.2.0 09/11/2023
We are continuously improving WayAndSee and release new versions one or two times every year
New: Game Center leaderboards are now integrated into the info feature.
New: Recurring leaderboards save not only achievements (the top three places), but also all lower rankings.
New: Achievements can now earned multiple times
New: Achievements are now awarded as Gold / Silver / Bronze medals
New: There are now additional recurring leaderboards for Europe and North America.
New: Starting with iOS 18, you can also select a set of rankings for the GameCenter icon
New: If you tap on a map for a longer time, you can get a route to that point
Info: This was a user request that we were happy to fulfill
Fix: CarPlay detection is now more stable
Fix: Several minor functionality and stability improvements
Since version (V1.4.5) WayAndSee also supports recurring GameCenter leaderboards (at least IOS 14 required).
These recurring leaderboards last 30 days and are automatically recreated after each cycle. This means that newcomers also have a chance to be in first place.
WayAndSee uses your SeeScore value and other achievements (number of countries visited, etc.) to show leaderboards in GameCenter. This allows you to compare yourself with all WayAndSee users who also use GameCenter.
WayAndSee shows its own leaderboards for each type of SeeScore (number of countries visited, cities, etc.).
These leaderboards are available as a global leaderboard and one for each continent. In the leaderboards per continent, only those users whose place of residence is in this continent are counted. ALL users are ranked in the global leaderboards.
GameCenter also offers the option of inviting friends for direct comparison.
