Add captions and metadata to digital photos. Auto-crop multiple scanned photos with one click. VERY easy to use. Try it out free!

If you have thousands of printed and digital photos, you'll love SnipTag. It includes two tools - one speeds up scanning, and the other makes digital photos easy to organize:

- SNIP crops dozens of scanned photos with one click
- TAG adds captions and metadata to digital photos

SNIP (AUTO-CROP SCANNED PHOTOS): Scanning photos doesn't have to be slow and painful. Scan up to 8 photos at a time with any scanner, phone or digital camera. Batch-import the scans into SnipTag. They'll all be extracted and saved in the blink of an eye. In original resolution and format.

TAG (ADD CAPTIONS, METADATA TO DIGITAL PHOTOS): Want to add dates, locations, descriptions and keywords to photos? SnipTag adds captions as well as metadata in one step (A caption is text below a photo when you view or print it. Metadata is embedded info that stays in a photo even when it's exported to another computer or program.)

With SnipTag, you can caption photos in batches. Either type or dictate. All the details are also added in IPTC metadata tags, for easy organization and retrieval of photos.

SnipTag's powerful metadata editor supports more than 25 IPTC and EXIF metadata tags. Make your digital library of thousands of photos easy to manage and search.

SnipTag's Metadata Viewer shows detailed EXIF, IPTC and TIFF data for every photo. And its Photo Finder can quickly retrieve the photos you need.

SnipTag gives you full control of your photo memories. It does all the processing locally, on your Mac. Nothing is ever uploaded to any server - assuring you of complete privacy. When done, you can export photos to any computer, external drive or cloud storage.

When it worked, it was decent enough! But now it crashes

I tried this on a subsample of my images. Maybe a dozen. And it worked. Not perfectly, it couldn't nail the cropping dead on. But it was close enough that clean up work would be tolerable for the few hundred images I had to parse now (and possibly a lot more later). I paid for the full version, I like to support developers creating unique niche apps. Plus the cost is neglible considering how long it will take me to do this manually! But like magic, it almost quit working then. I need to run any Canon RAW images through a converter to make them TIF first. But they are larger files. And the app hangs before it even gets to 20. So I tried the Jpeg verision, and it still crashes. I am very disappointed.

If you are looking at this app it is close to what you need. But I can't say for sure it will deliver.

Developer Response ,

Hi. It's a very stable app so crashes are puzzling. Please delete and reinstall the app, then try submitting your scans again. Hopefully this will resolve the issue. If problem persists, please email us and we will assist further. (Follow-up dated 15 June: Hello, is the problem resolved or not? Please email us so we may guide you.)

Works intermittently

I love the idea behind this app, but I cannot get it to work consistently.

I imported hundreds of pre-scanned images, but the auto-crop feature would not pick up the images because I scanned them touching the edges of the scanner bed.

So I painstakingly rescanned all the photos with plenty of white space around each image, exactly as described in the FAQ Autocropping Tutorial page. This improved the auto-cropping, but some of my scans randomly were not detected at all.

I cannot determine why some of my scans aren't detected but others are, even though I scanned them all exactly the same.

Switching the cropping engine yielded mixed results. With the amount of time I have spent fiddling with this app, I could have just scanned each photo one-by-one and manually cropped each one and been done sooner.

I'm going back to my Windows computer to use the ScanSpeeder app.

Developer Response ,

Hi. We would love to help you get consistent results. Could you send us a few of your scans that weren't cropped correctly? We'll analyze and let you know what happened.

Saved me HOURS of toil

Tried out scans cropping as well as metadata editing. Cropping works very well if the photos are spaced apart and kept inside the frame as the user guide says. I must have cropped thousand plus scans by now, much time and effort saved. And for metadata, last month I emailed the developers for some improvements in handling of dates. They emailed last week asking me to check the new version, and they’ve done exactly what I asked. You won’t get such service from big companies.

Thank you. We value your feedback, and are working to further enhance the app’s features - especially the user interface.
