We played it in the car and listened, stopping at each place for as long as we wanted. My kids (11 & 13) first seemed put off by the idea of listening, bit quickly changed their minds begging me to start the audio before the car got moving again. Very cool that the app would auto-play as you got closer to each point!!One suggestion might be to play the audio before the point such as the Lone Cypress. We had to back track to see it.Also, perhaps a little fix to the “more” areas to continuously play even if the user goes back to the map?I really do wish I had an additional tour for Carmel and further south along the PCH. We drove the whole way and really really missed hearing all about it like we did in Monterey. I couldn’t find anything like it!

We’re so glad you enjoyed the tour! We have a PCH and Big Sur tour coming out soon. And thanks for the suggestions for the Lone Cypress pin and the Learn More audio — we’ll make both of those changes for the next update! Thank You!
17 mile drive, sort of
tiniebagel
The app’s interface is ok. It kept insisting that I should have gone to the beginning of the route, despite me being about a 1/4 mile away from one of the two main entrances of 17 mile drive (there are many, but I started at arguably one of the largest). My location was turned on for the app at the highest level of permissions possible, so I know that wasn’t the issue. As it turns out, the 17 mile routes on these maps don’t start at the usual main gates for the driving path. Ok, that’s fine, the app will correct itself while I drive, right? Well…For a few miles, I could not figure out why I wasn’t getting any voice prompts or narration, and then I realized the route doesn’t really follow 17 mile drive as laid out by the official local maps. It still hits major landmarks (it follows the peninsula, rather than the usual driving trip), but it isn’t really appropriate to call it the 17 mile drive audio tour. Perhaps the Monterey Bay / Pacific Grove / Carmel scenic drive?Additionally, the app gives two choices - to start from Carmel or Monterey - but it should have been clearer that those options are actually about which direction you want to take the drive (clockwise or counterclockwise). The narration itself is nice so far, and it’s helpful that it mentions where to turn at tricky spots and the main parking lots. However, I expect older people will have problems getting this to work. I had trouble just downloading the demo, and I’m in my mid-twenties and working in tech. Therefore, I only recommend this if you’re confident with mobile devices and apps. You can get around 17 mile drive just fine with the map and street signs.

Well worth buying this app

The app worked perfectly for us and narrated details about points of interest shortly before we arrived at those points, which made it easier for us to decide if we wanted to park and look around on foot, or just view from the car. We've been to 17-mile drive several times and still learned new things from this app. We appreciated the “learn more” option to get even more info. A+, we would buy more audio tours from this app developer.
Developer Response
That’s awesome to hear! And you can continue to use this in the future if you have guests visiting. I’m so glad we could add so much to your visit and we hope to continue adding to the Learn Mores over time so the tour should just get better and better :) Thanks again!
Great app

Think of it as the Rick Steve’s of 17-mile. An upbeat shepherding voice to narrate while you drive. Really a great idea to seamlessly tour the spots without having to stop and read along the way. Very efficient option. Pro tip though: this is best used if you have a passenger serving as DJ and navigator. It doesn’t guide you to the next stop, as easy as the route may be. Helper can also DJ some of the additional “More” snippets and help navigate where the sites actually are, since the narration starts before you arrive at the spot. But overall a worthwhile purchase.

We're so glad you enjoyed the tour! Thanks for the review!
