What’s New

Version 7.0.2

• Apple TV tvOS 15 Update: Restored compatibility. Temporarily, some features are not supported (keyboard, voice), and some new features (app launching) have been added.
• Roomie Voice Control! A new method of Voice Control has been added. When activated from Roomie’s Settings, the following syntax can be used. This feature is specific to each device, so you choose which devices listen for voice commands by activating it on that device. Roomie must be in the foreground to listen for commands. All commands begin with “Roomie”. If you do not specify a Room Name, the current room will be assumed.
• watch/play/turn on/start/launch/activate/open/toggle {Activity Name} [in {Room Name}]
• turn off/power off/system off/shutdown [in {Room Name}]
• play/pause/stop/mute/unmute [in {Room Name}]
• skip/replay/next/previous [# times] [in {Room Name}]
• set volume {#} [in {Room Name}]
• volume {up,down} [# times] [in {Room Name}]
• tune {channel name or number}
• Additional TV IP Control: Native control method added for nVidia Shield, Sony TVs, and many more. The existing ADB control methods also remain. Each control method has some features unique to it.
• Panasonic Blu-ray Player IP Control: Current models including the DP-UB820 and DP-UB9000 can now be controlled directly. [7.0.1]
• Activities now provide an Always/Never/Default setting for Dashboard visibility. [7.0.2]
• Lutron Caséta: New and improved control method with much broader support.
• Various fixes to Homebar to support non-HomeKit Shades such as those in Caséta.
• HomeKit Synchronization can now be disabled on a per-home basis.
• Barco projector IP control including display of detected content aspect ratio and crop control for Cinemascope models.
• IP control for Zigen SW42 Plus models.
• Trinnov/JBL receivers now display decoder and mode in the volume dial.
• Wattbox models on recent firmware are now controllable.
• ATV Gesture Control and other fixes (for tvOS 14).
• Homes Editor: The device you are on is always listed in the second position for the Primary Controller menu.
• Disabled Googlecast discovery. It's too low value with 2 other discoveries on the same device(s) potentially. Can be added manually.
• Updated TiVo control for changes required by September 2021.
• Device Editor: Show actual HomeKit device name in device listings.
• Device Editor: Tweaked to display room in list when All Devices is selected.
• Device Editor: Allow editing Serial Numbers in Advanced settings. Generally these should not be edited, but can be useful if a device is added manually and needs that information.
• Code Set Editor: Improved code editing field auto-expands as more lines are needed. Monospaced font. Preserves formatting.
• Activity Panel: Room selector menu now uses the room bubble selector rather than a flat menu.
• Room Bubbles now present a home icon at the top to navigate to the Dashboard.
• Unanswered remote incoming Intercomm calls now timeout after 30 seconds.
• Plex fixes for rare scenarios.
• Revised subscription offerings. Existing subscriptions are unchanged.
• Annual minimum macOS version update advanced to 11.5.

Simple, beautiful interface for integrating multiple systems

I’ve gone back and forth for a long time to try to find a good looking interface for controlling g everything around the home. There are systems that do it well, like control 4 and Savant, but those are really expensive and I don’t want to hire an integrator. There are completely DIY options like Home Assistant that just don’t look as good. Roomie Remote is a great balance between those two extremes.

I just hope the folks at Roomie Remote continue to invest in the platform by adding new integrations and options. I haven’t needed tech support or requested it but I do hope they recognize that their true market is likely tech saavy folks that don’t want to hire an integrator. Users might need a little guidance and assistant from time to time getting everything set up properly and it would really help the platform get adopted if they invested in providing some tech support to users beyond bug reports.

I’m in the process of getting a ton more Apple gear and iPort mounts so I can roll this out all over my house. Since the app is so configurable, I’m sure I’ll find more ways to integrate new stuff and make it even more useful over time!

Roomie Remote v.7 is simply the best remote control app available. Period.

I’ve been using Roomie from the start and through its segue as Simple Control and then back. I’m so glad Will and the gang are back on track. This latest version and their revised purchase/subscription plans with Family Sharing and free access to the app for guests eliminates a lot of the annoyances of previous versions. Yes, the app isn’t what I would consider inexpensive, but nothing on the market comes close to offering what Roomie can do all in one simple and clean interface without installing an all encompassing proprietary home automation system. With Roomie, you can press a button to control (or voice command) all your AV gear, lights, scenes, cameras, etc. from various vendors and using multiple protocols… you’re not limited to just HomeKit devices or just one brand of receiver or lighting control… you can use just about anything and have them all work together under Roomie.

The easiest remote app to configure

Roomie is by far the fastest to add devices, rooms, and configure complex systems. The ease of adding your av gear, lighting, garage doors, thermostats, etc and actually be able to depend on it working almost all the time is it’s biggest feature. Preconfigured device screens (and available customization) allow you to setup a new room or activity very quickly rather than apps that require you to design the ui and arrange buttons on the screen. I’m a programmer and I can do that work, but I get more out of my system using Roomie because I can do more faster. There will be the occasional technical issue with any solution but overall our uptime has been almost perfect. And the price is very reasonable. It is a diy solution so be prepared to dig in to get the most out of it but for functionality day to day it absolutely can not be beat.
