Reflex: Motion Art & Sound
Motion becomes light and music
Free · In‑App Purchases
Move, and the world answers — in light and in sound.
Reflex turns your camera into a living instrument. Whatever moves in the picture — a hand, your face, leaves in the wind — draws with light and plays the music. Sweep your hand and threads of light follow while piano notes bloom behind them. Hold still, and both settle: the light drifts away, the notes ring out.
MOTION MAKES MUSIC
Every effect comes with a generative soundtrack that listens to how you move. Nothing here is a loop — the music is composed live, so it never plays the same way twice. Your movement shapes how it plays, not only whether it plays: move gently for quiet phrases, move boldly and the notes grow louder and new instruments arrive. In headphones, each phrase comes from the side you moved on.
• Move — the music answers your motion
• Listen — the music plays on its own while you shoot
• Ten soundscapes: Lullaby, Splash, Oxalis 1, Eyes Closed, Aisatsana, Pulse-code Modulation, Agua Ravine, Glasswing, Estuary, Nocturne
• Piano, vibraphone, glockenspiel, guitar, violins, soprano sax, clarinet, cello, đàn tranh, birdsong and deep swells
• Or play a song from Apple Music instead
• Headphones recommended
NINE LIVING EFFECTS
• Silk — pull colored threads of light with your movement
• Glimmer — wake a cloud of starlight that curls and shimmers, or let it settle on you and shrug it off
• Ember — shed glowing sparks that rise and burn down
• Opal — sink below the surface and stir a wake through the water
• Dapple — stand in sunlight falling through willow, leaves, branch or maple, and stir the shade
• Trace — your scene becomes dots of light to push, part, or carry away
• Vortex — stir colored dust into currents that keep turning
• Resonance — scatter sand that settles into Chladni figures, reshaped by every note
• Nebula — pour your movement into a slow river of stardust
Every effect has its own settings and remembers them, so you can tune the look until it is yours. Each one also has a story, with things to try.
CALM SESSIONS
Switch from Camera to Calm, set the phone down, and rest. The controls step aside and the music moves the picture for you. Breathe along as it rises and falls, settling to about six breaths a minute, or simply listen. Sessions run from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, or with no timer.
BEYOND THE CAMERA
Run any effect over a video from your library. Bring in a photo and play it with your finger: drag across it to stir the effect and play the music. Touch works on the camera and on videos too.
RECORD THE WHOLE MOMENT
Record video and the generative soundtrack is captured with it, exactly as you played it. Or take a photo of the effect.
LEARN AS YOU PLAY
Short Guides with animated drawings show you how to make music with movement, tune an effect, and pick clips that work.
