It’s a Japanese app, in Japanese. If you don’t live in Japan, don’t bother trying to register your PASMO, just set up an anonymous one. Adding funds will be a charge from Japan, so again if you don’t live there, use a payment card that works outside your home country and notify your bank if you need to. Have fun and enjoy the trains.

As others have pointed out, you can only charge the card through American Express so if you have other credit cards you’re out of luck. That being said, pasmo is a great transit option once it’s funded. Yes the app is all japanese but you’re really just going to use this app to keep receipts and connect it to apple wallet. Just keep the card open in the wallet app and switch between it and google maps and you’ll be fine. You can also use pasmo at a bunch of places other than transit, just keep an eye out for the symbol.

It worked well during my stay in Tokyo. The only downside I had to use my Amex card to buy credit. It did not take my visa or master card. But this digital PASMO in my iPhone was a game changer!

I wanted to write this to give advice to those trying to use it who don’t read Japanese.I give 3 stars because it’s true, language cannot be changed, however if you set up the PASMO through “Wallet” it will do so in Wallets set language making the app functional like any other cash-card and easy to charge up and use for transit.
