Stop guessing what's causing your acne. SkinTheory is an acne and skincare tracker that helps you spot patterns in your skin the way a scientist would: make a hypothesis, track it, and let your own data show you what's working.
Skin changes slowly. A new cleanser, a stressful week, a few short nights, extra dairy, your cycle: any of them could matter, and by the time a breakout shows up, you've already forgotten what changed. SkinTheory keeps the record for you, so you're not relying on memory and guesswork.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Hypothesis: Think dairy, poor sleep, a new product or your cycle might be the culprit? Start with a hunch.
2. Track: Do a quick daily check-in with skin photos, how your skin feels, your mood and a pimple count.
3. Analyze: Graphs line up your pimple count against everything else you log across your last 21 entries, so possible acne triggers start to stand out.
EVERYTHING IN ONE SKIN DIARY
- Progress photos from the front and both sides, so every day is easy to compare
- Skin feel and mood on a simple five-point scale
- Daily pimple count
- Your skincare routine: which products you use and how often
- Personal notes for anything else worth remembering
- A timeline of every entry, with weekly and four-week views to help you stay consistent
SEE YOUR BEFORE AND AFTER
Skin progress is hard to notice day to day. Put your photos side by side to see how far you've come, or pinpoint exactly when a flare-up started.
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
Skin selfies are personal. Photos you take in SkinTheory are saved to the app, not your camera roll, so they won't pop up when you're showing someone your pictures.
GO DEEPER WITH LAB+
SkinTheory is free to download. Lab+ is an optional subscription that adds the usual suspects to your daily check-in:
- Period: see whether your breakouts follow your cycle
- Diet: log fast food, dairy, alcohol and protein
- Water intake: check whether drinking more actually shows up in your skin
- Sleep: see if short nights line up with worse skin days
- Exercise: see how your workouts line up with your skin
Give it a few weeks of check-ins and let your own data do the talking.

PLEASE NOTE
SkinTheory is a tracking and journaling tool. It doesn't diagnose, treat or cure acne or any other skin condition, and it isn't a substitute for advice from a dermatologist or doctor. If you're worried about your skin, please talk to a professional. Bringing a few weeks of photos and notes can make that appointment a lot more useful.
Lab+ is an auto-renewing subscription that renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it anytime in your account settings.

This app has been great for tracking my skin trends and being able to bring that info back to my doctor. I ended up paying to have the extra features, but I feel like the free version would have been okay. Excited to see how the app develops develops in the future!

DESTROYS PHOTOS
Talia.ch02
So i’ve been using this app for maybe 2-3 years now and forthe first 2 it was completely fine. Recently i’ve been going in to check my past photos for progress and all my photos are unavailable and youcan’t see them anymore. Instead of my photos is a blurry image of thing. DONT USE THIS APP IF YOU WANT TO RISK ALL YOUR PHOTOS. I deleted all my photos in my phone after transferring them to this app. Since this app has DESTROYED my photos i have no way of getting them back.
Developer Response
Hi there, developer here, I'm really sorry about this! I temporarily pushed a bug to prod that blurred all the photos. Your photos should be there now if you make sure to update the app.Making sure our users photos are safe and secure is our main priority. Literally priority 1 for us, so I'm very sorry we failed you here, but it is fixed and ideally will never happen again.Thank you very much for using SkinTheory, all the best,Conor
So far so good, but could be upgraded

The app is very simple to use and helps keep track of skin progress. However, I think having an option to save your beauty/skin care products and correlating to see if those are a source of an outbreak would be beneficial.
Trackers for everybody!
