Is a great app But.

Update: App got fix and now it’s working well for me. Loving it now. Customer service gave me excellent experience. Updated to 4 stars, if they allow to choose more than 50 clips, that will be my 5 star. But over all, amazing app. I am brand new to 360 cameras and recently got my X5. Initial use of the app was great and I was able to choose multiple clips to edit using Ai auto edit. Im new so I still have a long way to know how to edit manually but Ai edit works well for me and minor editing. I updated the app and that almost made me return my X5 because of frustration. I cannot Ai auto edit multiple clips at once when I was able to do before and the clips are less than 4mins total time. Good thing insta did is a choice to be able to revert back to old version and with that, i am able to choose multiple clips and did the editing. Downside is, its really an old version with different layout I have to get to know. Hope they fix this soon. But have to admit, the X5 is really fun and nice but this app is making me think twice about keeping it.

Great app but...

I have used various 360 cameras and Pps over the years and Insta360 app is by far the best. Inutive and very easy to use. I have two problems with. The first being that I have original One X which they have locked out of some special features. There are minor differences between the One X, R and One X II major reason why haven't upgraded. Instead they have decided to limit functions in the app for my camera the same (to be clear these features were present for the One X to be pulled later which kind of confirms that it is not a hardware limitation.The next issue is soul crushing and makes no sense. When using video I can't make stay on 5K. Anytime I stop using the app it switches back to 4K. This not how it functions when I use the camera without the app. I like to reframe which works better with 5K and never or rarely want 4K. So frustrating. I can't tell you how many times I have stopped a video and start again only to realize I hadn't reset back to 5K. I'm guessing that this is a weird hardware issue when connected through WiFi but I don't care if it drains the batter more, just allow for the default setting be changed. I have looked for one and have not been able to find it yet.

Great but clumsy for long videos

This app is way, WAY, better than GoPro’s equivalent. I really like being able to add key frames to move the view around. Clipping out the 30 second clips out of these files is really tedious and difficult, especially on 45 minute plus videos. The scrubber is not easily controlled, and hitting recorded marks are very difficult. I wish I could simply select a mark and get an automatic, and adjustable, clip beginning 30s before the mark (rarely ever mark before an event, almost always after the event). This app also kind of stays out of the way, but they’ve started pushing adverts more and more. I do not want an account to work with my local recordings. And I have zero need for your cloud. Just be an editor.

The editing process is extremely convenient, but staring at the phone app to do long edit hurts my eyes, and their desktop version don’t have shotlab and flash cut and music selections. On the other hand, shotlab and flash cut is made for the era of short video, any lengthy cut has to be done manually, and if you want something fancier, that’s where the editing software starts to fall apart. I find my longer video often stuttering and I have the desire to export the file just so I can continue editing in other app/software. Some of the simple things I want are: adding stylized / customizable text options into video editing process, and adding transition for video and audio at the beginning and the end of the video, such as fade in/out. When it imports files from phone, it can only see certain folders (and file type). The more edit you do, the more apparent the stuttering effect like sudden slow downs around places where camera angle turns or transitions. Transitions aren’t perfect either bc most of the turning one turn too much. I don’t want the camera to turn 180 + zoom out and suddenly sees me holding up the camera before it goes to the next scene. I’ve been reframing the 360 videos and exporting them to VideoLeap for editing, then export it back to VLC to convert back to MP4 then do final touch up with Insta360 app to make sure format is correct before post. I get it that Insta360 wants to make edit as quick and fresh as possible, but some flexibility for manual editors like me would be nice too. By the way, Premier Pro lifetime package is $200, so you can see why an amateur like me is reluctant to go all in like their help blog suggest: “just use premier pro” they say… it’s a bit much for me at the moment. I want some practice before I invest the big buck and time to be a content creator, ok?This app also cannot post with VPN enabled on your phone.
