Too many tabs slowing Safari down? Tab Suspender quietly puts the ones you're not using to sleep, and brings them back exactly where you left off. Safari keeps every open tab running: its scripts, its video, its connections. Tab Suspender puts the ones you're not using to sleep, freeing up to 60% of the memory they hold. Click or tap a sleeping tab and the page comes straight back, at the same scroll position. HOW IT WORKS • Choose how long a tab may sit idle, from a minute to eight hours. After that it goes to sleep on its own. • A sleeping tab keeps its address, its title and its icon, and shows roughly how much memory it handed back. • A sleeping tab runs nothing: no scripts, no timers, no video. • Put a tab to sleep yourself, send every other tab to sleep at once, or wake them all. On the Mac there are keyboard shortcuts too. NEVER THE TAB YOU'RE USING Tabs you're typing in, tabs playing audio and pinned tabs stay awake, and so does the tab in front of you. NOTHING LOST • Sleeping tabs keep their place in history, so Back still works. • A sleeping tab is still an ordinary Safari tab, so it reaches your other devices through iCloud Tabs. PREMIUM • Deep sleep: frees far more memory by parking the tab on a blank page of ours, and keeps it asleep when you quit Safari. The page's address never leaves your browser. • Stats: how many tabs slept and how much memory they freed, day by day. • Never-suspend lists for sites and pages that must always stay awake. • Wake a tab the moment you open it, or keep every tab awake while you're plugged in. • A blurred screenshot of the page behind each sleeping tab. Premium is a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time purchase. Bought the original Tab Suspender years ago? Premium is already yours: use Restore Purchases in the app. No ads, no account. Very good - with one MAJOR issue

It does what it is designed to do, and save for the occassional hiccup (when it fails to restore tabs, which can be solved by restarting Safari). The one thing that's a majos annoyance is that when you open Safari, Tab Suspender places a popup in the middle of your screen - telling you that it's restoring your tabs - and this popup can not be dismissed or even minimized. It sits on top of ALL apps, not only Safari, so even if you switch to another app, it still forces itself on top of all other apps. For what reason I don't know. That's a completely useless popup, and it completely interrupts my work. Since it can take MINUTES to restore tabs if you have a lot of them open, Tab Suspender basically takes over your computer for absolutely no reason. That's why it only gets 4 stars. I hope the developer reads reviews and gets rid of this stupid and disruptive popup in the future (or makes it possible to dismiss it with a click), then it would be a 5 star app.

Developer Response
Hello,Thank you for your feedback! I agree the popup is annoying, unfortunately there is a reason for its existence. Safari 13 has an issue that prevents extension tabs from the previous session to be loaded when opening Safari. The extension tries to workaround that by restoring those tabs using a not so efficient, but necessary process. Because this process might take some time, that popup is shown. Ideally the popup would only show when Safari is in the foreground, but current Safari Extension's limitations makes that impossible. The minimize button in the toolbar should show. If it does not, I would really appreciate if you could contact me (via the contact button in the extension) and let me know your MacOS version. On the other hand, you will not see the popup anymore if you update to Safari 14. If you do decide to update Safari, please Unsuspend all your tabs before. This is an essential step since there seems to be a bug in the Safari 14 update that breaks extension created tabs - including the Tab Suspender ones.Once again, unsuspend all tabs before the update.Thank you for review and, please, feel free to contact me via the extension menu for further issues and questions

Does what is says it does! Saves TONS of memory for me. 4 stars becuase I didn't have the issue with the repeated "restoring tabs" mesasge until updating to the latest version that claimed to fix this...UPDATE: restoring tabs issue is fixed, but still 4 stars because the updates are getting to be very irritating. There has been a new update every day for the past 4 days and I keep having to quit safari to update, then restart and restore broken tabs, which gets rid of the screenshot on each tab unless I go through, un-suspend them all, then re-suspend them all. Just a little annoying, please try to wait to update until all issues have been solved. :(

Hello,I'm glad you find it useful and apologies for that bug!The issue with the "Restoring tabs" message showing several times was only in the version 1.2.0. You might have had an earlier version that did not have that issue so that is why you might not have experienced it before. Either way version 1.2.2 was released yesterday and will most likely fix this issue. Make sure to refresh the updates section in the App Store. One important note, given how the Tab Suspender is integrated in Safari you will have to quit Safari while the app updates. Please reach me via the contact form in the Tab suspender preferences as I would like to try to get more information on that bug in order to be able to reproduce it in my machine and then fix it as that is a very annoying glitch...Thank you

Excellent App - Can’t Stand the Badge Counter

Great app that does exactly what you expect without much annoyance. I do hate the red badge counter on the icon badge in the the tool bar, it’s visually loud and distracting. I can remove the button from the toolbar, but then I loose the ability to click in and see the extensions activity.I would really love if a toggle for the badge counter on the icon was available in the extension settings. It would be 5 star at that point.

Thanks! Honestly, I like seeing the number of sleeping tabs on the button, but I can see how it gets distracting. So the update coming this week adds a switch for it in the extension's Settings.I appreciate you taking the time to suggest it. If anything else comes up, there's a contact form in the app, under Help: "Write to me".

Giving 5 stars to balance out the greater than 1K tabs 2 star review

Of course if you have over 1K tabs, any thing that is trying to do anything with your tabs will mess up most personal computers. If you try doing something like this with Chrome with just 200 or so tabs on an average Mac, it'll mess up too, as you'd expect. The developer can't put an easy disclaimer either as if you're computer is super powerful, it would be able to handle going through more tabs.
