I feel the current review of 3.8 is harsh. here is the thing reporting decibles isn't that easy. It's contingent on the headphone.What this does do. You take a teams call on mac it goes to max volume you damage your hearing. Now this app, you set a safe limit to say 50% (max) that's not going to cause damage with almost anything you use and you have time to adjust, and it nearly always audible. I don't see much issue here. You don't need to overthink some of that other stuff if you say 70db in an app-- you could just write that but it's not really 70db on the vast majority of things you use because it's driver and impedence dependant or whatever the device is. Really if you are doing headphones i'd personally recomend 30% as a reasonable starting level that's going to be a good percentage of the time what you watn. if you are in doubt use your phone which has a decible meter and listen to your headphones though that. NOISH makes one. I'm warning you though it's an estimate unless you callibrate it. This is really good if you are using headphones that don't have one built in. Apple you should have this built it for the safety of your customers just like you do on the phone.To the auth of this what i'd recomend is not a db matching attempt but a max volume and a safe starting volume. This is somethign that people use in recievers and is a proven model. It's also much easier to implement. FOr example user picks 15% on default just enough to hear clearly but you can't get it past 60% (or whatever the user decides to do). That woudl take thsi to the next level. Not sure if you are working on this anymore or willing to share the source code.

Good but missing one key feature

This is a super simple app to use. It sits in your menu bar, and you just use a slider to set your max volume (across apps, I'm assuming?). The only problem I've encountered, is that it doesn't tell you what decible you're setting the limit to. So I have no clue if I'm actually protecting my hearing or not.

• AirPods and other Bluetooth headphones ignored their limit completely. They are now limited like every other output, and the limit applies as soon as you connect them. • Turning on a limit for one device no longer clears the limit you set on another. • Dragging a volume limit no longer changes your current volume. It only turns the volume down when the volume is above the limit. • Limiting no longer unmutes a device you muted yourself. • The built-in headphone jack is now recognised, so limits apply to wired headphones. • Your device selections and their limits now survive a restart. • Limits work right after installing, without opening Settings first. • When a global limit and a per-device limit both apply, the lower one is used. • Displays, HDMI and some USB interfaces have no volume control of their own. Hear can now limit those in software, once you allow it to capture system audio. • The menu bar now shows which device is playing, where its volume sits against the limit, and which limit is being applied. The list refreshes by itself when you plug something in or out.
