The Yass Veterinary Hospital was established by Dr Ian Nielsen as a 2 man practice in 1973 and primarily provided veterinary services for the surrounding rural community with an 80% large animal base. Dr Peter Gibbs acquired the practice in 1984 and had the vision to build and open an additional small clinic in Murrumbateman to service the village and surrounding hobby farms in 1992. Dr Stuart Williams joined the practice in 1993 and became a partner in January 1996 and the new purpose-built Yass Veterinary Hospital was completed at it’s current location in Laidlaw St Yass, later that year.
Stuart purchased Peter's share of the business in January 2010 following Peter's decision to cut back his involvement in the practice. With the demands of an increasing client base and an ever-changing business environment the practice has refined its outlook to become a team based and values driven enterprise.
We were excited to open the Murrumbateman Veterinary Hospital in June 2018 to provide a state-of-the-art Hospital to service both our small animal and large animal patients in a modern and well-equipped facility. Considerable effort has gone into establishing our team to provide truly professional and exceptional care and make a genuine difference to the lives of the patients that we are privileged to treat.
Yass Valley Veterinary has now grown to become an 8.2 full time Vet practice with a complimentary Veterinary Nursing staff of 15 to provide your pets with the compassionate care they deserve. Our Animal Care Team is supported by a team of 4 Customer Service Receptionists and 3 Admin Staff. Cats and dogs now make up 75% of our work but we remain a traditional mixed practice capably treating horses, all domestic farm animals, pocket pets and wildlife.
We now make up a skilled, experienced and professional team capable of providing extensive veterinary medical, surgical, ambulatory and ancillary services throughout the Yass Valley.
