I paid for Pro for 6 months. BEWARE Their pricing is dynamic: while trying the app on a free version, theyll make a 1st offer at $11/ month. if you say no, a couple of days later they’ll make a 2nd offer at $15.. and if you say no again, if you want to switch to pro they’ll make you pay full price at $19 . This approach is disgusting, exploitative and feels like extortion to me. I’m so TIRED of all these apps who make it urgent to upgrade right away and keep a dynamic pricing. Just have 1 damned price, I’m so tired of this capitalist system. I cancelled and deleted my account. The content is good overall, very well structured, games are fun, I made some progress. However, the Chinese person they use for the audio voice is terrible, her accent is hard to understand at times, she even mispronounces some words. Hence overall a 3 star rating. I’ve found better resources that use a more ETHICAL pricing.
Hi Alex, thank you for recognising the quality of the content, the course structure and the games. We’re glad you made progress during your six months with PRO, and we’re sorry the offers left you feeling pressured. We’d like to clarify how our pricing works. Each plan has a regular price, with discounts available through two types of promotion:• Calendar promotions run on selected days each month, usually around Chinese festivals or occasions such as Black Friday, Christmas and New Year. These are planned annually, and the discount varies by event.• In-app promotions are linked to particular learning milestones or usage. Completing content that involves more study may trigger a larger discount, while another activity may trigger a smaller one. Their order depends on how you use the app.Declining an offer does not increase the regular price or trigger a more expensive offer as a penalty. You may encounter different discounts in a different order, or see the regular price once a promotion ends. We understand, however, how seeing $11, then $15, then $19 could give exactly that impression. Your feedback makes clear that we need to explain the relationship between regular prices and temporary offers more clearly.Regarding the audio, our recordings are produced with native speakers from Beijing. We take pronunciation concerns seriously: if a particular word sounds incorrect or unclear, you can report it directly from its entry in the app, or send the example to hello@khanjischool.com so we can review the recording.Thank you for explaining your experience so thoroughly. We respect your decision to cancel, and we’ll take your comments about the presentation of offers into account.
