Description

A Free-Association Psychoanalytic FMV game

New York, late 80s. Annie and Rex, psychoanalysts by trade, are having an affair. Embark on a journey into their unconscious, using psychoanalysis to investigate what drives their relationships, and how their past defines them and the people surrounding them, in this psychological FMV game.

The unfolding of the plot is based on your own personality and observation: analyze the characters by connecting ideas and motivations to unlock new videos in a free-association experience.

Created by filmmaking company Burgeon & Flourish LLC, Of Two Minds is a game 30 years in the making: all of the footage was shot back in the 80s and has been waiting, until now, or you to discover its secrets.

Unique, thought-provoking and engaging gem of an FMV

No one could ever call me a “gamer”, but boy do I love puzzles — and I’ve always been the type of couch co-op partner of a gamer who loves cut-scenes, so Of Two Minds definitely hooked me from the start. It’s got a little Pokémon element (I couldn’t resist “trying to catch ‘em all” with the themes and concepts as they floated past my screen on my initial plays of the game), mixed with an almost “whodunnit?” vibe that almost made me rush past some of the wonderfully quirky moments being displayed in each of the scenes as I tried to “solve” the puzzle. But the true joy is in the experience. Luxuriating in the smallest moments of each memory. Catching new details each time and really getting a feel for how to “play” the game — learning which matched themes would earn me a new cut-scene memory to dig into. The interface is slick and easy to navigate, the gameplay is smooth, and the style makes it a great option for pick-up and put-down play whenever you have a few spare moments (I usually like to game on my commute on the subway, so this is ideal). Have to give a shout out to the amazing score and soundtrack, which is delightful and definitely sets the tone for the game as a whole. Kudos to this first offering from new-comer to the gaming scene Burgeon and Flourish — definitely give this one a download and a play-through, you won’t regret it!

Interactive way to learn psychoanalysis

I found this to be such an engaging way to learn about psychoanalysis. It reminded me of a few of my classes in social work school where we used cases studies to learn these key terms and themes. This was definitely was a way more fun and engaging way to learn! Picking themes in real time during the scene kept my focus and then my curiosity was on fire as I tried different combinations of themes to uncover new scenes. I recommend this app to anyone curious to learn more about psychoanalysis!

Interesting, Story Driven

This is such a unique game. I love that each character has their own narrative track. Similar to the feeling of binging a tv show, I wanted to collect all of the themes so that I could watch more of their experiences. Also love that it's retro in design and how the music and sound design move it along with buoyancy so that the themes don't feel too heavy.
