Hey all, xaround v2.1.0 is here! What’s new: 1. Campus communities now show verification progress, including verified student counts and progress toward the community goal. 2. Home feed now shows posts from people you follow and your own posts, not just posts from communities you follow. 3. You can now browse verified community members by Student, Alumni, and Other, with search and pagination. 4. Followers and Following lists are much better now, with tabs, search, loading states, and clearer empty states. 5. Post and reply media uploads now support files up to 30 MB. 6. Likes, unlikes, follows, and unfollows now have haptic feedback when haptics are enabled. 7. GIFs and animated WebP media should play much more reliably across feeds, threads, profiles, notifications, composers, and the media viewer. 8. Link previews and shared post/reply images now load and size more consistently. Also improved: - App launch and sign-in should be more reliable when the network is slow. - Feed, thread, and hidden-reply pagination should get stuck less often. - Notification refresh, read/delete actions, and thumbnails should feel more stable. - Users without profile pictures now use a more consistent default xaround avatar. - The media picker opens more cleanly after typing in the composer. - Moderation tools have been expanded with better user management, search, username editing, and the ability to move posts between communities. Hey all, happy new year 2026! I've completely rebuilt xaround from scratch. It took many months of focused work, but I'm really proud of the results. Why rebuild? The old codebase had limitations that were holding back what xaround could become. Starting fresh let me build it right, with modern architecture that will support everything I have planned. --- What's new: 1. Native iPad support with split-view navigation. Finally! Use xaround alongside your other apps. 2. Anonymous posting with verified student/alumni badges. Post anonymously when you want privacy, or show your badge when you want to be known. 3. Automatic link previews with thumbnails. Share links and they'll look great. 4. AI-powered moderation working behind the scenes 24/7. 5. Share posts as images. Save, copy, or send to friends. 6. Hey all, another update from me! I'm very happy to present you with this latest update which I've been diligently working on for the past week. I'm super grateful to those that care enough to report bugs they've found – a couple of them actually crashes the app! Ops... What's new: 1) Full GIF support for the post. Choose "Photo" mode when creating a post and select your desired GIF from your camera roll. 2) Automatically start GIF animation when it is visible and stop when not visible to minimize your device's memory usage. 3) Added new actions for posts with GIF: (i) Copy Imgur Link, (ii) Open in Safari, and (iii) Save GIF to Photos. Bug fixes: 1) App crashes and become completely unusable when a new user follows and subsequently unfollow a campus. This glitch fixes itself when another new user performs the same action. Upon investigation, the bug was found in the new user registration which writes the document identifier incorrectly to the database. 2) App crashes when tapping the "Done" button when writing a comment. This is a very easy fix, I overlooked the linking of the button to the view. 3) Text limit for writing a report doesn't work which means you were able to technically submit a textbook worth of text, haha. 4) Viewing the post's title doesn't work when writing a comment (accessible through the eye icon). 5) Mislabeling the remaining character count of title text when editing the post. Minor improvements: 1) Redesigned the comment cell for a much cleaner look and better readability. 2) Distributed the spacing between the buttons nicely in the post cell so that it will look great on all screen sizes. 3) Added more categories when reporting a post or comment. Also added one more category for "Report Issue" and "Give Suggestion" respectively. The next update will include a new feature to reply to a comment (nesting your reply directly underneath the comment, similar to Twitter, Facebook, and others). Hi there, reader! Yes, you! :D Just a small update to fix a few bugs that were reported by fellow users. Bugs fixed: 1. Translation is not offered when the post's title is in a foreign language. 2. Edit post's title functionality doesn't work when the author attempts to edit it. 3. Success banner is shown twice when saving the post's image to Photos. 4. Campus name is shown in every post when in a campus feed (supposed to be hidden to save your screen's real estate). Minor improvements: 1. Added separator line in the long-press menu to make it easier for you to find the action you'd like to perform, for a better user experience. 2. Hey all, it's been a while! I had to take a 6 week-ish break after building this app daily for over a year. But I'm back now, feeling better than ever! So I hope you too are doing well! This update aims to bring the app to the next level! I spent a couple of weeks working on this update to enhance the app (performance, features, and user experience). What's New: 1. Post – Text & Photo Mode i. Added a NEW mode when posting: (1) Text and (2) Photo post. You can now attach a photo to your post! Choose from Text and Photo mode when creating a post. ii. Added title for text post which is optional. iii. Reworked the user interface (UI) for creating a post to work seamlessly. I've integrated Imgur into the app for this feature. The photo will be hosted on the Imgur server which you can access by long-pressing the post or tapping the more button. 2. Translation Added the translation feature to let you understand the posts/comments in foreign languages (powered by Google Translate). The app automatically detects the language of the post/comment, compares it with your device's preferred language, and offers translation when the language doesn't match (accessible through more and long-press gestures). The way it works is by opening in-app Safari and automatically paste the text on Google Translate (text's language to your device's language). If you're familiar with the Apollo app, this feature works exactly the same! Credits to Christian from Apollo for this clever workaround! :D 3. Photo Browser Tap the post's image to view it in full-screen mode. It supports finger gestures for zooming in & out. Thanks to SKPhotoBrowser! :D 4. NEW features for posts with a photo: i. Copy image. ii. Copy link (the Imgur link of the image). iii. Save to Photos. iv. Share image only with others (instead of the entire post). These features are accessible through the more button & long-press context menu. 5. Others i. Reworked the edit post/comment user interface (UI) to improve user experience. ii. Added the create post button on the home page (since I was asked by a few people as they didn't know how to post). iii. Added a new option in Settings > General which allows you to enable/disable the success alert after successfully publishing a post. iv. Added post title (when present) into the notification cell. v. Improvements on the layout of the notification for better readability and to look great on all screens sizes. vi. Shows error banner when changing app's icon is not supported. vii. Long press the profile's bio to select the text. viii. Create post-recovery. If your battery runs out or the app shuts down when you're creating a post, don't worry! Launch the app again and the text & title will be there waiting for your return. This feature works for when you're creating a comment too! ix. Slight improvements to reduce frame drop when scrolling through posts. ––––– Bugs fixed: 1. The app crashes when signing out using iPad devices. 2. The app ignores the text limit when editing the post/comment. 3. The alert is not showing when trying to edit a post/comment when the permission is disabled by a moderator. Thanks for reading! Bugs fixed: 1. App crashing when long-pressing a comment that you published. 2. Profile does not show the post that was pinned in a community. 3. Receiving an anonymous comment didn't send you a notification. 4. List of users that liked your post/comment inside in-app Notification didn't load. What's new: 1. Shows banner when saving/unsaving a post or comment. 2. Added "Done" button on the screen where you write post/comment. 3. In-app notifications related to the post/comment that has been deleted are now automatically removed inside your in-app notifications.
