FourSix makes brewing pour over coffee easy.
There are countless ways to brew coffee. For coffee enthusiasts, sometimes these methods can get... complicated. And following a more complex recipe can be difficult, especially in the morning when you haven't had your coffee yet.
Part calculator, part timer, FourSix is designed to take a complicated method for pour over and make it simple and easy, even if you're still not completely awake. Named after the 4:6 method invented by Tetsu Kasuya, FourSix will create a custom pulse pour recipe based on 3 simple questions - Do you like your coffee sweeter or brighter? How do much do you want to extract your beans? And what size? Instantly, you'll see how each pulse-pour will break down, and how they affect your final cup. When you're ready to start, simply follow along with the Timer telling you exactly how much to pour and when. Not only will you get a great cup of coffee, but you'll be able to do it again the next morning.
To use FourSix, you'll need a Hario V60 and a scale that measures in grams. Additional helpful tools include a pouring kettle with a narrow spout and a thermometer to test water temperature.
If you like FourSix, but want even more, you'll want FourSix Pro.
- Get extra settings so you can dial in your perfect brew exactly how you like.
- Record every brew and make notes, ratings, and track your coffee beans.
- Get notifications about your coffee cooling to the perfect temperature.

more It has been a while since I have used this app as I have been doing a Gabi Master A instead of a more traditional dripper. For pour over. But I am in Puebla Mexico, and having some amazing coffee at specialty coffee shops here, and I was showing the app to one of the baristas. And that is how I discovered the subtle changes. But I quickly realize that all I needed to do was to click the PRO option, and all of the details I would need for programming would be there. I learned the app very quickly, and am very pleased with it still and I highly recommend it. It is worth the price. If you are a coffee aficionado like I am.

I’ve tried several pour-over brewing apps and this one is the easiest & most pleasant to use. The method itself is giving me great results, and I love that I can set one number & two preferences and the math & steps are laid out for me to follow. Paid for the one-time Pro upgrade & it’s worth it to be able to adjust ratios. I also appreciate that there’s a 3 second countdown after hitting start so I have a chance to grab my kettle. Only thing I’d like that this app doesn’t have (yet?) is a way to save a short history of my brew sessions. The average drawn down is good info to have but I’d like to be able to refer back to it later.
Developer Response Thanks for the review! A brew log has been something I’ve considered adding since the beginning. So it’s very likely to come in a future update.

Really helpful with a small hario to make a cup or two of coffee with a good method that extracts the right flavors you’re looking for. Really good tool for beginners who want to use a hario but are worried about all the different brewing techniques. Start from here, and you just adjust your coffee beans and grind size. I like a very coarse, pretty much like a French Press grind size. Grind 30 on an Encore. Start from here, master this with your Hario, then you always have a standard to come back to while you experiment with other pouring techniques that suit you, while still getting the cup of coffee that you enjoy.

This makes it very easy to use the 4:6 method. App is well laid out, easy to use, and makes dialing in your brew very easy. The FAQ and help are very beneficial especially new to this method as I was. One of the best apps on my phone. Effective, simple, just like it’s supposed to be. Looking forward to the brew notes feature. Will make this 6 stars then. That will really help tune brew and coffee selection.

2.6.2 07/07/2025
- A new timer face is here! It's called "Rings", and it is minimal and clean, while still providing valuable information at a glance. Current and next step are immediately visible, and every other step is just a scroll away. Optionally show total time and get an additional progress ring showing your total progress. Requires iOS 18+. If you prefer the previous timer face, you can always switch back to "Classic" in Settings.
- Note details and the brew summary now have a real-time graph of your pours right at the top. The timeline reflects how long each step lasted. Best paired with auto-advance steps turned off so manually advancing steps tracks exactly how long each step lasted.

- Also made some small UI/UX changes along with some bug fixes and some more work towards new features coming soon.

2.5.1 01/26/2025
The Pro guide just got its glow up. This update introduces a ton of user experience improvements.
- All new design for the 4:6 Pro guide that makes it even more powerful.
- Editing coffee and water values is quicker and easier. No more stepper as the primary method for editing, just tap and type.
- By popular demand, you can now set coffee and water values to a tenth of a gram precision. The calculated pours will still be rounded, but this allows you to get more accurate calculations. For example, half a gram difference could equate to as much as 8-9 grams difference in water.
- Redesigned charts, including a timeline chart to see how the water increases over time.
- Set your water temperature, grind size, and selected coffee beans directly from the 4:6 Pro guide. No more having to set these values AFTER brewing. Now you can set them closer to when you're actually making those decisions.
- Also, these values will now persist between brews and app launches, so if you've already got your brew dialed in and are using all the exact same settings, you no longer have to type them in all over again.
- And finally, experimental coffee process options have been added. You can now record when you brew with coffee processed with anaerobic fermentation, thermal shock, co-fermentation, and more. If I'm missing any options you'd like to see, send feedback! More fields for coffee will be coming soon as well for people who love to record every detail on their specialty coffees.
2.5.0 01/12/2025
- Added a new home screen. See all the important info at a glance when starting your next brew. Choose between simple and pro modes, see how much coffee you have left in your current open bags and what coffee you have on deck, and check what your last brew was like so you know whether you want to make changes or keep it consistent.
- New cleaner design for Notes. They're also organized into categories based on how you have them sorted.
- A lot of changes under the hood to prepare for some exciting updates to come
- Squashed some bugs and added some additional small refinements.
2.4.0 09/18/2024

2.3.2 02/26/2024

• Small UI fix to the What's New View for iPhones that still have the home button.
---- Changes from 2.3.0 -----
It's finally here. SEARCH & FILTER. Want to find that one Note you made about a brew that really stood out, but scrolling weeks or months worth of Notes just to find it is a pain? Or maybe you just wish you could see all the Notes about your favorite coffee? Or all the Notes where you brewed a coffee from Ethiopia that you rated 5 stars? Well now you can!
• On the Notes tab, there is now a filter button that allows you to sort and filter your Notes based on things like ratings or date.
• Combine filter and sort with the new search bar where you can search for details about your Notes and find all the matches, and you've got a really powerful search feature.
• Start typing and immediately see search suggestions. Just tap a suggestion to autocomplete.
• Combine search tokens to take your search up a notch. Search for all Notes matching a specific coffee name, brewer, origin, and the text you added to your "Session Notes" and "Additional Notes" fields.
• In addition to searching Notes, you can now also search and sort your tracked Coffee Bags! Use the same powerful search features as Notes. Search based on coffee name, roaster, or origin.
This update also includes some more minor additions:
• A new "What's New In FourSix" view that gets shown on app launch after an update to help users learn about new features if you're not the type to read these App Store release notes.
• Added the coffee's origin to the list of information displayed on the Coffee tab.
• Moved the "Add" button on the Coffee tab up to the top toolbar to be more in line with the UI of the rest of the app and Apple's suggested design language.
• Some other small UI adjustments here and there.

- Updated UI on Settings
- Added link to follow on Threads and Mastodon. Check them out to see previews of new coming features.
2.2.3 01/23/2024
- Fixed an issue when updating FourSix from an older version to version 2.2.0 or newer with iCloud syncing. If you previously encountered crashes or the "Error Loading Data" screen on app launch, this should hopefully resolve that while retaining your old data (unless you already deleted the app).
- Fixed a lag when starting the Timer countdown.
2.2.2 01/14/2024
- Fixed a bug where the app would always launch with Guided brew mode set.
- Fixed a bug where enabling the cooling notification on the Summary view when permission was previously denied would silently fail.
- Fixed a bug where tapping the exit button on the timer and then cancelling would cause the alert to reappear after each step.
Previous release notes for v2.2.0
- Notes and Coffee Bags will now backup to your iCloud account. So if you get a new phone, or delete the app and reinstall it later, all your data will automatically be restored. (If for any reason you don't want to back up to iCloud, you can turn this off in your iCloud settings)
- Added handling for a rare error that can occur when loading your saved data after an app update. Previously, the app would crash and provide no information to you on how to resolve it. Now, an error screen will be shown and provide you with a few troubleshooting steps you can try, along with a way to send me the relevant error logs so I can help diagnose and fix the issue.
- Some general performance and stability improvements
As always, reviews are appreciated. If there's anything you're unhappy with, send me feedback via the Settings tab.

2.1.1 Release Notes ---
Small update that removes some animations in the Onboarding screen shown to new users that may have been causing crashes.
Previous release notes for v2.1.0:
Thank you so much for all the feedback on the new version 2 update. This update adds a ton of your most requested new features, as well as some additional improvements and bug fixes.
New Features
- Added coffee bag weight tracking. When creating a new coffee bag, you can now add the total weight the bag. As you use FourSix, the amount of coffee you use will automatically be subtracted, so you'll always know how much coffee you have left.
- Added a quick edit mode to the Pro recipe builder. Want to go from 15 to 40 grams without having to hold the "+" and wait for it to increment the whole way? You can tap the "Edit" button to allow editing parameters with a keyboard for quick changes.
- You can now set your coffee, water, or ratio values to just about any amount you want in Pro mode. I have no idea how you'd successfully brew 5 grams of coffee to 1000 grams of water, but if you want to give it a try, go for it!
- Added an "Info" button on Brew screen to provide more information about the 4:6 technique and the currently selected recipe. If you're new to the app or the technique, it gives a great rundown.
- Coffee bags now have a "status" property you can set. There are 3 statuses: New, Open, and Finished. If you select a New bag to add to your Note after finishing a brew, the status will automatically move to Open. If your tracked weight reaches less than 1 gram, it'll automatically be moved to Finished. You can also manually edit the status.
- Coffee bags now have their own "note" field. Use this to record any additional details you want about the specific bag of coffee you're brewing with.
- The Timer now has a back button. Tap once to restart the current step. Tap twice to restart the previous step.
Bug Fixes
- When using next or previous button while paused, the step progress will now update as expected.
- Some UI/UX improvements throughout.
Hope you enjoy, and please continue to send me feedback at jon@foursixcoffeeapp.com.
