  • Update: photo mode still Not working

    SGSCreate

Updated: yes, good news, they did update the software and it does work AFTER you log out and create a new account with an new email address, etc.. I had PAID for the pro version on the original account and then had to pay AGAIN for the new account and I have no idea how to get a refund. Although I immediately canceled my first subscription, I have still been charged for two subscriptions. The LiDAR mode works with my wife’s iPhone 12 Max, unfortunately the photo mode does t work on my iPhone XR. Just hangs on Hold Still to calibrate, when you move around nothing is recorded. The Manual Mode doesn’t appear to be taking any photos. Attempted multiple times with over 30 + button pushes and the ‘done’ button never appeared and nothing ever saved. When trying to x exit out it says ‘exit’ or ‘save and exit’ neither did anything, just hung for over 15 minutes until I gave up.

Hi there, we had a rough bug introduced that made the app pretty unusable for some folks creating new accounts. The bug is now resolved, though. If you just started using Polycam, in order to use the app as normal, you'll need to log out and create a new Polycam account with a different email (or hit "skip >"). Huge apologies for the issues and if you have any other questions please email me at contact@polycam.ai

  • Paid for pro and they took away with my work docs…..

    Honest Mike?

I wish I could give them a higher score because had this not happened I was going to leave a different review. Not a 5 star but can be a decent app once they figure their stuff out. But I purchased my galaxy when I had it not knowing needed lidar which i switched back to iPhone after phone was stolen and has to go through difficult process to transfer app to iPhone. Oh, then you decided to try the business because for some reason, pro doesn’t really do anything.A it’s kind of useless. You can’t save your measurements. No, that’s for Business. Another $400 mind you post 200 and there’s a lot of apps out there for free. Just as good. After having two video calls with a sales rep, allowing them to try to show me the value in the $400 upgrade when I couldn’t see the value in the $200. I told them I’m canceling the trial and will stick with the 200 pro and figure a get around for now or transfer my skins to a free app that lets me save the measures. They decided to take it upon themselves to. Try to charge me $400 for the business for a week or two and then suddenly take both away with my skins for my business and have now left me to talk to Apple, which I have spent all day yesterday just to end up with them saying I need to speak back with Polycam……… I want my scans and my money back or your”pro” back And have some customer service for Christ sake. Will keep updated have a call with big boys at apple tomorrow woohoo…..

  • Encrapification over time

I used to love this app, it worked amazingly, scanned entire floors of houses, exported reliably for only $60/year for the pro version. For about three years it was my go-to tool for personal projects and home renovations (I am a DIYer not a commercial or pro user).Fast forward three years and forced updates later, now it costs $150/year to export which is totally unreasonable for a DIYer like me and to make matters worse when scanning longer sessions (more than one room or two) randomly the entire scanning view turns blue (the color of unknown/uncaptured geometry) and stays that way completely ruining the scan. When I click finish at that point all the data is gone. I have to reattempt 10-15 minute scans like 5 or 6 times to finally get a successful scan which makes me completely discouraged from using the app at all, especially since I wont shell out the absolutely insane almost 3X price bump for export to SketchUp so I can stitch multiple scans together since a lot of my scans simply cant be done in one session due to geometrical shift mid scan and the extend feature being close to useless/broken/unreliable. What’s the point of buying devices with fancy hardware like LiDAR when there is no first party software and the third party is ridiculouly overpriced subscription rubbish.

  • Too Many Bugs

    FascistbookSucks

Yesterday I had 2 completed scans completely disappear from my phone. Lucky for me I had immediately uploaded the first one to the cloud so I could share it, but then it disappeared from my phone entirely when I exited out of the finished scan and back to all of the other scans I’ve done. The same thing happened again later in the day, only this time I wasn’t so lucky, it too disappeared when I exited the scan and I didn’t upload it to the cloud. Also, I couldn’t extend a scan. The app says it has successfully relocated and to move the phone to start scanning, but nothing happens. One of the scans I sent to the cloud and shared with my gf appeared as all black with no surface detail even though it looks fine on the phone. I deleted it from the cloud and reuploaded it only to get the same result. Lastly, at the end of my last scan of the day (I did like 7 total including the ones that disappeared), I hit the red button to end the scan and save it but it just hung there. I had to quit the app and pray that the scan actually saved because by that point I was out of daylight. Thankfully it saved, but these bugs (except for the first where the scans totally disappeared) happen way too often.

    Developer Response

Hey there - thanks so much for your review / feedback. You've obviously used the app a lot, and I'm sorry you're encountering issues. I'll try to address them individually:- The disappearing captures are hard to explain - must be a bug, but we'll keep an eye on that. Sorry, I'm sure it's frustrating to have work disappear!- With the Extend button, you have to make sure you tap the "record" button after it's relocalized to start a new Session. The Extend interface is a little confusing in general - we should make it clearer soon.- Captures can appear black on mobile web browsers if the texture is larger than 4K, which happens at many processing levels. If your gf downloads the app or looks at the capture on a desktop web browser, it will appear normal.- Sorry about the hang. Sometimes that can happen with an intermittent web connection. If your web connection is very weak, try creating the LiDAR capture in airplane mode. This is something we'll work to improve as well.Anyways, thanks again for your detailed review! You can get in touch with us directly (contact@polycam.ai) if you'd like to chat more or provide other feedback. It's how we make the product better :)

  • Great App - Issues Need To Be Addressed

    AnonymousEngineer

I’ve been using Polycam for the last year and have been very impressed with its capabilities, and my coworkers and I have been using it for civil engineering applications. However, I recently ran into several issues. I read on another review that you must login to use the app offline. There are many locations where I wanted to perform scans that have poor cell service and therefore being required to be connected to the internet is a problem. Therefore, I created an account. However, it appears to have lost the scans I performed prior to creating an account and now it states “Oops an error occurred. Failed to sign-in. Please check your Internet connection and try again later.” My internet connection is fine, but I’m still getting this error. I hope the developers can address these issues quickly. I had intended on purchasing this app for a many more within my organization, but now I’m skeptical. Otherwise, this app is excellent, but this issues need to be addressed soon or we will have to stop using the app altogether.

Thanks for using Polycam and sorry about your troubles! We have found the source of this issue and will create a fix soon, but in the meantime please reach out to us at contact@polycam.ai and we can help to fix this problem for you!

  • cool app

    freqout

it’s amazing that i can create captures like this on my phone! the app is well-designed and powerful.i’m knocking off one star because when i tried photo mode, after uploading all my photos, it failed on the server during processing. it was very unclear *why* it had failed. the first time i thought it must have just been a server error so i tried it again. and again! i finally found a little snippet of feedback about why it had failed… “make sure to get your subject from all angles”. well i’d uploaded the full 250 images it took in auto-mode so im pretty sure i had good coverage. anyway, i think putting this info, obtuse as it was in my situation, front and center when the failure occurs would be helpful.im going to try again but in manual mode, but it kinda stings a little bit that my failed captures count against my free photo captures i was allotted. i guess that’s why i’m here leaving this review so I can get some more captures to hopefully not fail with!

  • Love it.. but could love it more

    14792678

Tbh i dropped a paycheck on the new iphone 12 pro for the sole purpose of using the LiDAR Scanner. After using this app and several others for about 4 months i can easily say this one is my favorite 3d scanner. Hands down the best for detailed photo-scans of objects. In the top 3 for scanning rooms and spaces. I wrote this review because i really want to see some new features introduced in the social-media platform on the app. I would love to be able to comment and share other people’s scans, follow certain users and locations, and message other profiles. Also, there is a section to add a description when posting a new scan, but this description isn’t available (to my knowledge) to its polycam viewers. As an artist, including the specifics on a sculpture i post in the description is pretty important. I hope to see these changes implemented soon! If they do, i think this app has the potential to become one of the top social medias in the future.

  • Very cool app but has sometimes pretty annoying bugs

    AbstractestThought

TLDR: the app works well sometimes and other times can’t photo scan a slightly complicated object. This app is amazing! I photo scanned my coffee table, expecting it to produce a nightmarish and warped version of it - not least due to my shoddy photography - but I was pleasantly surprised. There are some cases where objects seem to melt into each other or it interprets a part of the same object as a different one, but since I downloaded the app mostly to mess around, I don’t mind it.EDIT: upon trying to photo-scan a couple more things, I found that the app has more bugs than I thought at first. First, I tried to scan my living room, only for the app to produce a bumpy wall of stitched together photos. Next, I tried to do a box with things inside, which worked well in my coffee table scan, but this time had holes in it in random places, while the background was fine.

  • New export options are worse than the original

    JVMndst

I don’t know why export options were changed. I use this app mainly for floor plans for the work that I do. It’s nice to have different file type options for these floor plans because I only need a single type. It’s as simple as scanning the rooms and pressing a button. With the new options, there is not choice on what file type I can choose because it now exports every single type. It also doesn’t let me save them directly to the camera roll for whatever reason. With the new export changes, I waste more time exporting floor plans, waste more time choosing a location on my phones file drive for the zip folder, waste more space exporting several file types rather than just the one I need, and gives me a headache having to search through the folders finding the file I need and deleting the rest.Overall bad update, bring back the original. I’ll have to look at another app that still keeps exporting customized and simple.

  • Horrible

    mono master 2020

I got this app to see if it was better than Scaniverse, a free app with no account needed that I use all the time for fun, because it’s hard to get corners and under things on the ground. Using the free version, I scanned 45 pictures around my face from every angle I could get, and started processing expecting it to go pretty fast, only take 10 minutes at most but no. It took 2 days and after waiting that long it gave me a message saying my scan failed because I didn’t get enough angles. After 2 days. Not only that, but it still used one of my 25 scans I get for free, and I know it’s not, because I took pictures before and brought them to Polycam, and it didn’t use one of my free processes. It only uses one when you process something. And besides, if you can’t make a perfect scan, don’t just give up, at least give me something. Scaniverse still gives me a model with lots of holes in the mesh I have to fix, but Polycam gives me nothing. I’m sure the paid plans actually work, but still. Overall, it’s a waste of a login, and a bad program.
