Harbor Lookout offers a clear window into the shipping activity across western Lake Superior—including Duluth, MN; Superior, WI; Two Harbors, MN; and Silver Bay, MN. Explore an interactive map and ship list to view real-time details for each vessel—including arrival estimates, vessel size, heading, speed, and cargo information. Use estimated arrival and departure times together with each ship’s live location to plan your visit and experience vessels passing through in person. Prefer to watch from afar? Harbor Lookout provides direct access to strategically placed cameras throughout the region so you can observe ship traffic remotely. Enable push notifications for ship arrivals and departures so you never miss a vessel. For visitors and newcomers, the app also includes a brief history of the Aerial Lift Bridge, the port cities, and the cargo vessels that work the western side of Lake Superior.
I love this app and enjoy going to see the ships come and go from our entries. I desperately wish we could tailor which entries we get notifications for instead of getting notifications for all of them.
Works Perfectly!

It’s fun to see what’s coming and going out of the harbor and this app makes it a breeze. The app has been completely redesigned and they nailed it. The user interface is clean and intuitive. The information about arrival and departure timing is accurate and it’s easy to click on a ship to get a quick description of what it’s hauling and where is coming from or going to. Head to the map to view the ships and click on webcam links to watch them live. Whether you’re a local interested in knowing what’s coming and going out of the harbor or a tourist hoping to watch the next 1,000-footer go under the lift bridge, this app is for you!
The Best Feeling Your Body Will Ever Experience

I LOVE HARBOR LOOKOUT. Harbor Lookout provides accurate times on when Duluth's massive shipping freighters complete their arduous voyage into what is arguably the world’s most tantalizing port, providing structure and euphoria to my otherwise dull and meaningless life. As the ships approach the bridge and emit a guttural blast from the deep, gaping maw of their powerful horns, I feel as though every fiber of my being is being plowed by the firm hands of the freighter’s sultry cry. Some say god is dead; I say they have never experienced the joy of a Duluth freighter peering into their soul. This is truly the best feeling any body can ever experience. Thank you harbor lookout!!!!
New and Improved!

This app was updated late last year and works great. It’s updated by staff at the Lake Superior maritime visitor center daily and send notifications when vessels are close to arriving or departing. Not 100% accurate but as accurate as can be with how difficult it is to predict commercial shipping activity.
- Maps now show a shape that represents the actual dimensions of the ship instead of a dot or arrow.
- Coast Guard and Tugs now appear on the map (in orange).
- Ships in winter layup appear on the map and schedule list.
