Perceptron is a new incremental game which is based around the idea of building and training a neural network. The concepts behind a neural network have been distilled to their essence in this idle simulation. Not to say the game is simple. Sure, it starts simple with only nodes, training, and data, but soon balloons into a complex idle game with prestige and upgrades. Not to mention offline support. Take on the role of a young undergraduate student as you become quite the idle tycoon. Perceptron is not just another idle clicker. It was designed around the idea of training a neural network and has taken inspiration from many neural network topics. Who knows, you might even end up learning something.

But I’m going to write a second just because. This app… is more than an app. It’s more than an experience. It’s experiential. It’s you-play-around-with-it-and-think-about-how-it-applies-to-your-dreams-and-goals. It’s literally an example of the foundation of how most great ideas start- from tinkering and thinking to compiling and producing. This app is a legend in my book and I’m sure in the books of a lot of other people who have a passion to be someone and do something but don’t quite know how to get started. Please, if nothing else, just know this- about the app and your well being- the truth will set you free but first you’re going to have propagate it.

Confusing, but definitely informative

okay so like the title says, it’s confusing and very grindy, in terms of exciting gameplay it’s lacking, but it definitely has a lot of love from the developers in the form of little informative tidbits of info that pop up alongside the gameplay when you reset, it takes a while to grasp and most times is just a static screen, but it is very entertaining when you get close to a sort of goalpoint and especially when you do the prestige type thing, it also teaches you about baseline web mechanics which i thought was really interesting

I enjoyed it for a while, spent like 2 month playing. It just gets to a point where it realllyyy drags. Idk at some point it’s not fun to wait an entire day with overclock, watch an ad to double what I earned, then use that rep to get one thing and make effectively no progress. Can’t justify playing it anymore and glad I didn’t spend money. Maybe if you could sell some of the nodes back for slightly less then you payed for them it would move the right amount faster. Otherwise it’s just grinding ads to keep the boost on and days of waiting. Really appreciate that the ads are “optional” though! Don’t think it’s feasible to play without the overclock but it’s nice to have the illusion of freedom of choice.

So that’s 2 stars I guess? I keep coming back to it in case the beginning is just slow. But no. Every time something new unlocks it’s just more excruciatingly slow linear progress. The worst part about the game is how bad the prestige system feels. In most games, you prestige and then you catch up quickly and then progress. In this game, your prestige multiplier is capped by your current base power… so every time you reset you don’t get boosted back, you go through the same slog until you are forced to prestige. It just feels really bad.It also feels like a total ripoff of exponential idle. The style is like, identical. Exponential idle at least has some fun decision points and a feeling of actual progress.
