You’ve meditated before. Did it work? Be honest…you don’t actually know. Equa does.
Equa is a meditation app that turns your practice into something you can measure. Using only the motion sensors in your phone, Equa tracks your breathing while you meditate and turns it into feedback on what actually changed during the session. No watch, no ring, and no headband needed.
Using your respiration data, you can now see how your practice went, and watch your meditation skills develop over days and weeks – so you can tell whether it’s working instead of guessing.
If you are new to Equa, you can try the app for free. After the trial, choose your own price on our sliding scale, or become an Equanaut and make Equa possible for someone else!
Equa needs no additional hardware. Simply rest your phone on your chest and let the sensors inside do the work.
How it works:
Meditation Insights
Equa reads your breathing from your phone’s accelerometer during a session and shows you what changed. You get your breath rate in breaths per minute, how it shifted from the start of the session to the end, and where that sits relative to your own baseline. The respiration algorithm was developed with researchers at Carnegie Mellon University.
Breath Rate
Breath rate is one of the clearest physical signals that a session is doing something, and Equa tracks it every time you sit.
Trends
Single sessions vary. Practice shows up over weeks. Equa charts your breath rate and session history over time so you can see your progress over time.
Science
We didn’t just make this up. Equa’s Chief Science Officer, Dr. David Creswell, runs the Health and Human Performance Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, where he’s spent two decades studying how mindfulness training actually changes the body’s biological stress outcomes. One study found mindfulness training reliably lowered cortisol and blood pressure under stress. But participants didn’t report feeling less stressed – they just were. “How do you feel” was never going to catch that. So we built something that does.
Training & Curriculum:
Equa treats meditation the way a training program treats a physical capacity. Sessions ask you to stay with discomfort rather than escape it, because that is where stress resilience is built. The curriculum offers a structured path through Unified Mindfulness’s core skills: Concentration Power, Sensory Clarity, and Equanimity. Equa offers a science-backed framework for mindfulness training.
What else you can do in the Equa app:
Review any past session and its breathing data
Set practice reminders that fit your schedule
Follow guided sessions for stress, focus, and attention
Track and build on your practice
Equa provides products and services designed for general wellness and education purposes. Equa is not a medical device, is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Breath rate measurement provides feedback on your meditation practice and is not a diagnostic tool.

I love the skills based approach behind this method. It’s the first time any mindfulness program has explained the three attention skills (concentration, clarity and EQUAnimity) that mindful practice helps me develop and why those skills are critical to heightened states (e.g. creativity, flow, presence) and overall well being. The fact this comes out of the leading mindfulness research lab in the world (Carnegie Mellon University Health and Human Performance Lab) and has been proven to get results is huge for me. I like that science supports this, it’s just not some woo woo mantra thing, it’s practical and results and supported by legit scientific studies. It’s super simple, the app shows me how to practice sitting and throughout my entire day, easily. Learning to practice mindful with micro hits of practice all day actively is amazing. And finally, it’s interactive, I get to choose what skills I want to focus on and get personalized coaching with a few taps of the screen. I’ve tried all the other major meditation/mindfulness apps… none come close to EQUA.
A mindfulness app that actually sticks
sam.as.it.ever.was
For many years now, I’ve tried out wellness and meditation apps to help with my anxiety and spiraling thoughts. I can confidently say that Equa is the only tool that worked and still works till this day. In just the first week of using Equa, I was given a tool that I would be able to use in my daily life. When I feel stressed or anxious, I always think about my senses, just like Equa taught me. It has truly helped to mitigate my panic attacks and has grounded me in difficult moments. Whether it’s getting anxious on a plane, dealing with work stress, or battling moments of feeling overwhelmed with life — Equa’s methodology is what I turn to. I trust the people behind this app and I would recommend it to anyone. Don’t give up on meditation and try out Equa!
This app has helped me overcome pain
Carlton A
Practicing present moment awareness was suggested to me as a strategy for dealing with chronic pain symptoms. It was not long after that I happened upon Equa. I had no clue there was an app for equanimity and I immediately signed up and with few exceptions have used it every day. I had never heard of the concept of see, hear, feel or concentration, clarify and equanimity. It’s brilliant! Since starting Equa I have found myself using my ear buds less to listen to music and whatnot. I’m just as likely now, if not more, to simply go about the day finding enjoyment in being aware of what’s around me; what I’m hearing, seeing and feeling. And amazingly I find that my new-found ability to focus has enabled big strides in overcoming cycles of pain.
Great app based on real science
Dwb2001
There are so many apps to help with meditation and mindfulness. Some have some good features. Equa is the real deal. This an incredibly well designed app. The content is specifically designed based on principles from cutting edge research at Carnegie Mellon. It is packaged into a well-designed app. Having now used Equa for over a month, I can say it has made a huge difference in my life. I didn’t expect that when I began. I was hoping for a few tips about mindfulness and such. Instead I really find myself looking at life differently- and for the better. Highly recommended.
