Everything about this app is exceptional! From the narrators, variety of subtypes of horror stories, settings, and UI, this is a steal for $2.99/mo! The fact you have access to free content with the amount of time and effort that has been dedicated to this app makes it even more worthy of 5 stars! It’s hands down one of, if not the best, apps for horror fans! The only issue I’ve experienced is when my phone is connected to my car stereo Bluetooth. The audio drastically decreases in the narrations and is barely audible with my phone and car stereo volume maxed out. I’m not sure why this happens with iPhones. I believe it’s a known issue for audiobooks in general whenever you have your Maps navigation sound on (which I did when I’ve tried using this app in my car). I tried turning the audio navigation off on my Maps app when listening to audiobooks, and that seemed to remedy the issue. I plan to try the same process when using this app next time I go out and seeing if I get the same results. Overall, amazing app! If you love horror stories in audio format with legendary narrators, this is a must!

Chilling is a fantastic horror app for anyone who likes to unwind with a scary story or two. They have a slice of everything horror related from classics such as Dracula and Frankenstein to true crime pieces to original stories and series programs. They even have horror inspired ambience tracks that can be played alongside the stories or completely by themselves to drift off with the sounds of a crackling fire or a dark, stormy night.I only give them 4 stars here because they have some growing pains at the moment, which they no doubt can overcome. App wise, it seems to crash quite a bit on certain stories and the only way to fix it is to close the app and restart it. Design wise it’s a bit clunky, but I feel like they’re still finding their true vibe. Once they lean into their look and update the app style, this could easily become the horror lover’s version of Calm or Balance. Besides that, I would love to see some names within the horror community writing stories for them, which I’m sure they’re working on. The original series side of things is a direction I’d love to see them go for, and if they lean hard into new content, they could have a few hits on their hands.Long story short, Chilling is a great horror story app with some room to grow. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re into the more scary tinged stories, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

I love this app! Now I can listen to stories without having to drain my battery because I have to play a video. I am visually impaired meaning that I use voice over the iPhone/iPad screen reader. As a result sometimes I have to ensure that the application is compatible with voiceover so that I’m able to enjoy the benefits that the app brings. This app is so close to being fully accessible I find it amazing. A few buttons are not labeled meaning that voiceover indicates that the button is not labeled properly. For example I am able to play a specific story or chapter of the story, but I am not able to pause the story using the normal command which would be called magic tap for voiceover and it’s when you tap with two fingers in the app to play or pause. Additionally I’ve turned on screen recognition which allows voiceover to attempts to figure out what the unlabeled button or images are I have had some luck with this feature. I am able to click on the ambience button to turn on or off the background sound such as the fire camp or the rain. It would be very beneficial for voiceover users if buttons were labeled properly to ensure that we are able to access the app without any complications.

I got it’s a few days ago, and love seeing some of my favorite horror narrators and the opportunity to find new ones. I would enjoy more customization with the ambiance, perhaps sliders with different sounds like heavy rain, thunder, howls/animal sounds, Fire, etc. for a spooky campfire experience, similar to my favorite format on Being Scared’s channel of the dark cabin. I think the ability to queue up stories would be useful because while playlists are good (though I’ve been having trouble with getting the playlists to work) sometimes you just want to listen to a few different stories but not put them in a playlist. Overall, I’ve been enjoying it so far, definitely would suggest it to friends who like horror and I’m excited to be able to watch it grow! Edit: A few more ideas I’ve had for improvements would be a toggle for having the ambience on automatically. As well as a hard limit on how long stories/ambience will auto play until it stops. Like YouTube’s ‘are you still watching’ function. Several times times I’ve forgotten to turn on the sleep timer and woken to my phone having run all night. I love the selection, especially of classic horror media.
