Good RTW Remaster
Fable440
I think this is a good Rome Total War remaster. The graphics updates and unit skins look alot better in the remaster and the AI has been improved a bit as well. There are obviously things that could've been improved like the unit pathfinding and the campaign diplomacy especially however everything from the original has been atleast slightly improved upon (aside from the UI, though the remaster UI is ok once you get used to it).The battle AI cheats on Hard and Very Hard battle difficulty are also insane. The AI tier 1 units will seemingly fight to the death even against overwhelming odds, so I've turned turned the battle difficulty down to Medium but even then its tough to break alot of AI units. This change to battle AI is the biggest issue I have with the remaster. The cool thing is, all the new changes (aside from the graphics and UI) can be reverted to the original in the settings so you can get a reskinned OG RTW experience if desired. But I prefer the remaster changes personally....aside from the changes to the battle AI on higher difficulty.Overall, Rome 1 was my first foray into the Total War franchise and is still one of my favorite games. I think the nostalgia factor for alot of people has kept reviews a bit lower than expected for the remastered version but I personally have really enjoyed it and thus I give it a 5/5.
Engaging game that takes time

I wasn't sure what to expect as I've never really looked into this game and it came out over 10 years ago. Well, it's an engaging game along the lines of the old strategy board games, but on steroids. The game is engrossing and let's you think strategically, both militarily and diplomatically. But this game is NOT something like Rise of Nations. This game takes time. Lots of time. You're not going to complete a campaign in one sitting. More like 20 hours at the minimum. But if you approach it knowing that, it can be quite enjoyable. The only drawback about the game is that it crashes every now and then. This causes me to be paranoid and save the game whenever I get the chance.
Total War Rome Remastered

Total War Rome Remastered is an old game and in many ways inferior to TW R2 but this was available so I thought I'd take another look. If map strategy and repetition are your thing...this does the trick. You keep running into a brick wall at a certain point and the barbarians start taking you apart? It is amazing how one slight adjustment in taxes and better prioritization with the right infrastructure and boom...next level. You really can win as the Dacians if you're determined...
the new interface is TRASH

im glad this great old game didnt die. i paid for the first game and they just quit updating it to work. really angered me. so i was reluctant to buy the game AGAIN. but i love the game. so i paid the money AGAIN. not even a discount for the customers they took money from and then stopped making the game work on mac. sadly this game has been very throughly buthered in its remaster. the new interface is amazingly super small even on a BIG monitor. very hard to see, understand and use. the main interface should NOT have been changed as is changes and really destroys the main way you interface with the game in a horrible way. its totally unintuitive frustrating and doesnt work for me at all. the remaster really made me hate a game i loved. Why would i want to completly relearn to play a classic game ?
