1Password Broswer Extension is a Fail

I'm not sure what happened with the latest version of 1Password and the browser extension, but on my MacBook Pro, the browser extension rarely works. At least half the time, after I unlock the extension, the autofill function will not work, and sometimes the extension fails to recognize the page and pull up the correct log on credentials. I often have to clear my browser cache, close and restart Safari multiple times to get it to work correctly (or resort to copying and pasting from the main 1Password app. Also, unlike prior versions, with this version, ever time I open the extension, I get an email stating that the 1Password has been accessed from Safari. This is annoying and unnecessary.5 Nov 2022 Update: Still buggy, even after multiple updates. One particular annoyance is that on accessing (or rather attempting to access) 1Password to sign into a website, I frequently get the spinning beachball (or the 1Password version). I then have to clear the browser cache, reopen Safari and try again. I expect more from a subscription-based app.10 Mar 2023 Update: The latest update to the extension broke it (again). Now, if I clear my browser cache, the next I try and use the exension, I get a message stating that my access has been suspended and that should contact the plan administrator (me). The work-around is to open the 1Password app on my Mac and then try again. Seriously, this is getting old. The 1Password browser extension used to work seemlessly (and painlessly). Now it's just awful.

I received an email stating that the subscription price is going up, and yet the extension hasn’t worked properly for months (they tell you to click on the menu item under the Help menu in 1Password, but it doesn’t do anything). I may keep the app, since it securely stores so much that the Apple Passwords app does not, but the extensions fail is a huge pain. I have multiple clients I’ve onboarded to this service that I’ve had to explain to that this is just how things are now, since AgileBit apparently has no interest in solving this issue—despite raising prices. In the meantime, we have to copy/paste from 1Password to fill in webforms, or for simple logins you can still use the Quick Access feature, which works pretty well. But man is it frustrating to have a once-shining example of development for the Mac fail like this, and the increased price is just rubbing salt in the wound. I do have to think hard before my subscription renews soon whether I want to reward AgileBits with my continued payments, but as of now if feels like I’d be hurting myself as much as I’m hurting them, so it’s basically a no-win situation they’ve created here.I will add that this is likely as much an issue having to do with Safari as it is AgileBits’ inability to solve for it, because the form-filling feature works just fine in Chrome.

Version 8 is a step back

Why mess with what works... I used 1Password 7 for a long time and loved it. Version 8 was released and broke so many things, it's a case study in frustrating your users by not leaving good enough alone. Since the version 8 upgrade the Safari extension is constantly asking me to enter my password (version 7 was happy with my touch ID). I get random errors I have never seen before, like "Unable to save" when trying to save a new login, clicking the "Use suggested password" item but it is unresponsive and nothing happens... They also removed a feature I LOVED and used daily: holding alt/option while looking at an item revealed the password - gone in version 8. I wish I could go back to version 7, and I am not the type of person who wants thing to stay the same, I love changes and improvements but from where I stand, I gained nothing from version 8 but lost reliability and functionality I used to love about 1PW. I am only not looking to switch because their successful vendor lock-in. I am too deep into the 1PW ecosystem (installed everywhere) and leaving it behind would cause even more pain than this miserable downgrade they call "version 8".

I like the new version

I have been using 1Password since 2014 and just upgraded from version 6, so the new version, though somewhat different, has been a much smoother experience for me. I resisted upgrading, especially after reading some of the negativity here, but I liked that I didn't have to dump my old version 6 app and data to upgrade, so I felt confident I could go back if something went wrong or I was simply unhappy with the new version. To my surprise, the migration process from 6 was easy (though I did have to download version 7 first, but still not a big deal). I realized that Dropbox was having a hard time connecting to my devices regularly, so consequently, I often was missing new passwords if they hadn't been synced. That no longer is the case since everything just syncs flawlessly! Plus, I love that y'all are taking the time to respond to all of the comments. I'm sure the complications will get worked out, but if you aren't coming from version 7 directly, 8 is a no-brainer!
