Bittimittari.fi is a free service provided by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom for measuring the quality of your internet connection. It also helps you interpret the measurement results. Users do not need to be registered with the service to use it.
In the application, you are asked to select the services most relevant to you. The application analyses how well your current connection suits your needs. The most common services used are:
- Web surfing and public services
- Video calls and remote work/studying
- Watching films and TV in high quality
- Quick downloading of updates, content sharing and use of cloud services
- Online multiplayer games
The application also gives your connection a score on a scale from 4 to 10.
Please note that the results are only indicative and describe an individual measurement result in relation to your needs. In other words, an individual measurement result is not representative of the overall quality of your internet connection, as the speed and quality of a connection can vary depending on the time of day. For a more comprehensive picture of the functioning and quality of your connection, we recommend carrying out multiple measurements over the course of the day.
The application allows you to review your measurements and share them e.g. on social media.
For what data does the Bittimittari.fi mobile application need a permission?
- Your device's location data are needed to obtain and present more detailed measurement information. These include ISP, network and location data.
You can use the application without giving it the permission to access the aforementioned data. However, in such a case, your measurement information will be incomplete. You can give or withdraw permissions in your device's settings.
What personal data are processed in the application?
The Bittimittari.fi application processes devices' IP addresses, location data (if enabled by the user) and, in some cases, the SSIDs of wireless local area networks. Since the service does not require user registration, Traficom cannot connect the data processed to an individual person.
