Description

Life's too short to ride busy roads! cycle.travel is the app that finds you a route on quiet lanes and traffic-free cycleways.

Turn-by-turn directions and offline maps are 100% free - no need to "go premium". Trusted by thousands as a route-planning website, it's now an app for the first time.

Plan a cross-city commute, an afternoon ride, or a two-month touring holiday. cycle.travel finds your route in seconds to select the quietest, most scenic roads. Put your phone on your handlebars and let cycle.travel guide you.

cycle.travel is 100% independent, developed by one cyclist to plan the sort of routes I love. Become a supporter to help development of the app, and get extra maps such as Ordnance Survey, IGN France and OpenCycleMap!

"Essential for bicycling nomads" - The Guardian. "Fantastic" - Alastair Humphreys, author of Microadventures. "Better than all the other cycling route planners" - Jack Thurston, author of Lost Lanes. "A really good tool that I use a lot" - Will Norman, London's Cycling & Walking Commissioner.

(You can become a supporter within the app! This helps me develop it and keeps the servers running, plus gives you extra maps and other features. If you choose to do so, a purchase of the value you select will be applied to your Apple account on confirmation; subscriptions renew each month unless cancelled within 24 hours before the end of the period. You can cancel any time from your standard account settings, or by choosing "Account status" within the app. The privacy policy is at https://cycle.travel/about/privacy and the terms of use are at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ .)

What’s New

Version 1.5.1

Turn-by-turn instructions can now be in French as well as English. Plus a couple of little bugfixes.

Also new recently: Add your own markers to the map! Favourite cafes, awesome views, useful cut-throughs… whatever you like. Add photos and text. They'll appear both in the app and on the cycle.travel website.

Warning icons now appear for fords, ferries and border crossings. You can reverse your route with one tap, there's a "map lock" mode to avoid accidental swipes, and a new map key/legend. Plus a boatload of bugfixes and usability improvements.

Best App for Safe Bike Routes

I’ve tested a lot of bike apps and so far this one generates the best paths that I’d actually feel safe riding for errands or commuting. Most apps focus on the shortest distance or generate routes with extremely dangerous segments or crossings. Its very hard to find apps which have minimal yet intuitive controls to start and finish navigation as well, and this one does a great job. I’m looking forward to using this to explore my area more. Keep up the great work!

Brings a lot of great features together

What was for me several different apps that I had to switch between has become just one with this app. Before I had to use one app to draw a route and figure out things like elevation but I had to use another if I wanted the app to calculate the route for me. Now it’s all together and the best part is I can export a GPX to use with my Beeline or another nav system. Definitely happy I found this.

Excellent app- glad to be supporting its development

This app’s algorithms preferentially selects bike paths and the last travelled roads. I used it often in the Nice area in autumn 2022, and now that I’m back in the Salish sea area, I’ve used it to plan routes here.

A couple caveats: least travelled roads may not be the flattest, and unless you select the paved option, you will have dirt.

I love the features that blink to lodging, showing bike shops and even bathrooms.

It is a point to point app. One suggest for Improvement would be the ability to draw a loop route.

Thank you!
