more Balance helps me to relax in my work because I am not always watching the clock for when the next break is. I learned that we need breaks so I tried adding them in. Now, I can just focus fully on my task and know that I will hear a sound and get a pop up asking if I am ready for a break. (And yes, taking breaks really does work.) You can set your work and break times, clock in and out to track how much work you have done in the day, and the app is easy to use and not obnoxious or in the way. It is terrific!
Developer Response Thank you so much for the detailed review! Very glad to hear that you're happy with Balance 🙂

I appreciate the redesign moving the interface in the menu bar, which makes it easier to read. I also appreciate the clock-in/clock-out functionality versus other timer apps. A suggestion is to add a different indication/icon in the menu bar when a Pomodoro/Focus mode is active versus when you are clocked in, since I sometimes forget to start a session after coming back from a break. I prefer not having the time counting down so perhaps a tomato or some other icon would be nice.
Developer Response Thank you for the very nice review! 🙂 I appreciate the suggestion and will definitely consider it!Update: I have implemented your suggestion in Balance version 2.2. Thank you again!

I really just wanted a great pomodoro timer, which this is, but the little extras (clocking in/out, reminder notifications, etc) really just make it better at that. it secretly wants to be a full-blown time tracking app and is good at that too, but at its core it just helps you focus and take breaks, and it excels at it.

First, this app works great for holding yourself accountable to the time you spend working. I also like how it can track your work time in the menubar. It also can track time across separate workspaces, which is handy for those trying to split time on several different projects. The only downside right now is it doesn't sync via iCloud, so if you work on more than one Mac (like a desktop and Macbook), you'll have to manually add your time together, which isn't as intuitive. If this is added, it'll be a true 5-star app.
Developer Response Update: iCloud sync is now available in the big Balance redesign! I hope you will like it. 🙂

1.4.1 02/23/2023
I’m excited to announce the next Pro feature: Project Management. You can now log sessions and track time in different workspaces and projects.
You can now separate work sessions from personal time by using different workspaces. If you’d like to break it down even further to track time spent on certain activities or clients, for instance, you can do this with projects.
Workspaces are integrated with Focus filters, allowing you to show/hide certain workspaces. For instance, you might want to hide a Work workspace on evenings and weekends.
I would be very happy to hear from you what you think about this new feature and any questions or ideas you might have!
New
- (Pro) Added Project Management with workspaces and projects (mentioned above)
- There is now a Recommendation item in the Balance menu to make it easier for you to spread the word — thanks, Rich for suggesting this (and recommending Balance to others)!
- You can now mute the clock-in reminder until tomorrow or next week — thanks, Louis for the feedback!
Changed
- Manually started breaks no longer end automatically when unlocking the screen
- Notifications of the same kind no longer stack, so your notification center should be a bit cleaner — thanks, Anna for suggesting this!
- Changed some navigational shortcuts — for instance, you can now access the log with CMD+2 instead of CMD+L
- Made a bunch of UI/UX improvements throughout the app
Fixed
- CMD+F should no longer incorrectly start a break instead of a focus — thanks, Brittany for reporting this!
- A session’s last break is now properly removed when clocking out “before last break” — the total break time was always correctly calculated though
- Added a guard to prevent multiple focuses from starting at the same time
/ Alex

This is just a patch version with some smaller improvements, but I've started working on a new feature that I think you will like! More on that later.

- Fixed some UI issues
/ Alex
