Ledger is designed around double-entry accounting. Because Ledger is based on proven accounting practices, your transactions can be as complex as you need them to be. Record income, expenses, transfers, and splits through a simple interface.
When viewing accounts and their transactions, balances are at the forefront. Balances are charted for each account. For bank accounts, see significant deposits and withdrawals at a glance. For income and expenses, see your budget plotted against your spending balances — a budget tracker that shows how you're actually doing against your plan.
Capture transactions using CSV import. Automations can be created to assign categories based on transaction text. You can also set up integrations in Shortcuts, saving entries when using Apple Pay.
Sometimes a calendar is the best way to navigate your spending. From the main screen, it shows any transactions that happened on a given day. Open it from an expense account and you can see how often you're dining out, making online purchases, and so on — a budget calendar that makes patterns easy to spot.
Budgets can be a great tool when managing your money, but sometimes it's hard to know where to start. Open stats from each account to see your per-month spending over the past year. Once you create your budget, that line is overlaid on your spending chart.
Sometimes your invoices come far in advance. Ledger supports transaction statuses. When you receive an invoice, record it as "planned." From the main screen, open the Upcoming screen to see which invoices are coming due. For more predictable expenses, create a schedule and assign a template transaction. Entries can be generated on those dates as they occur.
Ledger supports backup and restore. It supports iPhone and iPad, and your data can be synced between devices. Dark mode and Spotlight search are also supported.
I really like this app! Visually, it’s extremely appealing. The UI is unique and intuitive. Truly, a breath of fresh air in the expense app realm. Fortunately for users, the developer is committed and responsive to constructive input. Wonderful improvements have been made in the import process, making it a breeze to bring in transactions from other apps or spreadsheets. Thank you.Clearly, this app is destined for greatness. Grab it!
Developer Response
I appreciated the feedback, and I am glad there is interest in transaction import. I have been experimenting with some improvements to the feature based on my own usage patterns, and always appreciate the input.
My Most Used App

I have never kept record of my spending like I have been instructed to do for years. This app has caused me to make a change, and I find it awesomely good as long as I am diligent in my inputing info. I can see where this will show me weaknesses in my spending habits, and also help me keep track of my impulse purchases that I seem to forget 20 minutes afterwards. I would probaby give it a 5 star rating but some of that is based on my limited understanding of bookkeeping and the difficulty in the learning curve for us accounting ner' do wells.Update: I have used the product endlessly for a little while now, and I now find it indespensible. There is a very strong possibility that I am using it improperly and it still takes care of my record keeping for finances. I now rate it a five the only improvement I could think of is if it could have some type of monthly tally, so I can save my monthly records and compare monthly to see if I have bettered my spending habits.UPDATE: Still my most used app, but since I installed OS 3.0 it now crashes when I select the amount for a transaction. I'm still leaving 5 stars since 3.0 is not official till tomorrow, and the developer has been awesome in the past with fixes.
Tutorials, PLEASE!!
Madokun
Thank you very much for listening!! Honestly I started to use your application once I found some other accounting explanations, but your tutorial clarify my thoughts. By the way, thanks for give us a sneek peek about your next update, great add-ons. Here are another suggestions:- It would be great if you could make disappear the words "New Transaction" when I start to write. That will avoid to click on the "X" icon each time that I want to add a new one, it's better for all of us to specify the transaction title. Well, I'm not pretty sure, it's just a suggestion...- Also, If you think that you'll do more tutorials, I think it's a great idea to put in your website a mailing list subscriber. I didn't know about your website update until I was managing my reviews so I decided to check your app section.I can't wait for the new version!!!!!!
Perfect for Bean Counters
Jonathan Sterling
I count beans, and I'm not ashamed of it. I've tried apps like Cha-Ching, and they are beautiful, but single-entry accounting is for chumps. Then, I came upon the Ledger: the first and only beautiful, usable and functional double-entry accounting app for iPhone. Ledger is more than worth the $3.99 I paid for it!Also, the icon is worthy of its place in my iPod touch next to the likes of TouchPad, ConvertBot and Tweetie 2. Thank you for making an application that is beautiful enough to sit on my first page of apps.
- Supported importing transactions without ids
- Supported more date formats when importing transactions
- Added text-based icons
- Added preference for preserving DR/CR when changing accounts
- Added auto-navigation when choosing accounts, schedules, and transactions
