Lexitaire is a fast, addictive word game: spell words from tiles arranged in columns, score points, and keep playing until the board runs dry — solo, racing a friend's score in a Challenge, or trading turns in a Duel or Team match, in any of 9 languages.
HOW TO PLAY
• The board is built from columns of letter tiles — only the tile on top of each column is playable.
• Tap tiles across columns to spell a word in your current-word tray.
• Apply a valid word to score it and clear those tiles, revealing the next letters underneath.
• Longer, higher-value words score more — each tile carries its own point value.
• The game ends when no more words can be made. Beat your personal best and land on the on-device top-10 list.
TIMED MODE
Prefer to race the clock? Start a Timed Game instead — tiles keep regenerating so the board never runs dry. When the countdown ends, so does the round.
CHALLENGE A FRIEND
Finish a board, then send your score and time to a friend (Messages, AirDrop, however you like) and see if they can beat it. No accounts, no signup.
DUEL & TEAM UP
Trade turns with a friend on the very same board — a Duel pits you head-to-head, a Team match combines your scores. Just send a link; no accounts or server required.
PLAY IN NINE LANGUAGES
Lexitaire ships with nine full dictionaries, each using its own standard letter distribution and point values:
English · Spanish · French · Italian · German · Portuguese · Greek · Romanian · Dutch
Know more than one? Combine any of the eight Latin-script languages in Settings, and a word scores if it's valid in any language you've selected — the more languages you know, the more ways there are to find a word on the same board. (Greek uses its own alphabet and always plays solo.)
The app itself is localized into an even larger set of languages, so the menus and interface feel at home no matter what you play in.
ADAPTIVE BOARD
The board size adjusts to your screen, so Lexitaire looks great on any iPhone or iPad — and plays great on Apple TV with the Siri Remote too.
Lexitaire is free to play and supported by ads. An optional one-time Premium unlock adds extra tile styles, background textures/photos, and Apple Intelligence word insights (ad removal is on the roadmap, not in yet) — Challenges, Duels, and Team matches stay free for everyone either way.
Lexitaire was originally released in 2008 as Word Nerd, later renamed Wordly — the same game you remember, now with a new name.

I'm fast becoming obsessed by this game

What started as an interesting word game is now fast becoming an obsession for me. The game's smooth interface belies the many layers of complex strategy that become increasingly compelling. Do I throw away a good combination of letters so that I can get an even better combination in the next move? Do I hang on to good combinations if I see a good move three moves ahead?One other thing I liked: I upgraded from version 1.x to 2.0 and it didn't even interrupt my saved in-progress game. Even switching to a new iPhone didn't interrupt the game. Nice work!

I've been using this app for awhile now. It's been my favorite app (Word Warp is good for quick fixes, but it doesn't know a lot of words that are dictionary words). Word Nerd knows many many words. The latest update allowing some measure of what makes a good score is very rewarding (but also indicative of what's possible). It's fun, it's addictive, and because if involves strategy (which letters in what order - what's further down in that column, in the other columns) and luck - it's well done.

The game is a lot of fun and becomes addictive very quickly. The first time I played I played all the way through...which is pretty rare for me. The game has hints of scrabble and solitaire which make it extremly easy to play. The goal of the game is to keep creating words until it tells you there are no more. Theoretically, you could also win by finishing all the tiles but that's a near impossibility. You beat the game by getting the highest score. The bigger the word, the more points you get. Enjoy!!!

• New Hints menu: dim out letters that can't complete any remaining word, reveal the definition of the best remaining word, or get a pointer to the next letter — get one free, or watch a short ad for another.
• Optional Game Center integration (Settings → General, off by default): sign in and unlock achievements for finishing games and scoring big words.
• A big accessibility pass: full VoiceOver support on the board, a Large Tiles setting, and Reduce Motion support.
• My Games now tracks several Duel/Team matches at once, alongside your solo and Challenge games, with swipe-to-delete for anything you want to clear out.
• A new wood-tray redesign, a "Full Bag" board size, a redesigned in-app review prompt, a unified word-details page, and dozens of smaller fixes (tray-tile undo taps, game-timer accuracy, and more).
