Marta Waterman ,

Wonderful app

I have been using this app for a long time. I speak and teach French, and I find it very useful. There are so many things I like about it. The dictionary is quite exhaustive pronunciation is great, many verb conjugations, useful phrases and lots more.

Following is an update to my old review. The developer not only fixed the problem that I wrote about below, but he has added lots more words. Everything works great now. Just tap any word or phrase and it will pronounce it for you. I highly recommend any app by Ascendo.

Old review: This app is just wonderful, but recently it stopped pronouncing words. I contacted the developer, and they responded immediately. Apparently Google changed something without notifying them, and that caused the problem. This is how to fix this issue on an iPhone: Tap the speaker icon at the top right of any dictionary word screen and turn off the switch for "Use better quality online voices when available." Then make sure the volume is turned up and try again. This totally solved the problem.

Love this dictionary!

I’m 70 years old and trying to refresh my High School French and tutor my granddaughter! Memorizing is difficult at this age. I’m using Duolingo plus a couple other free online systems. I rely on the dictionary for all the words I forget. I like the pronunciation feature and the conjugations. All the examples and different uses are very helpful. This free French/English dictionary is the best! I use it everyday. Thank you!

Developer Response ,

Amazing!

I don’t know how anyone learns a language without this app! The translations are accurate and reflect the most up to date ways that the language is used. I especially appreciate the way this app has helped me with my pronunciation. I was afraid to try learning French because I thought I’d never get the hang of the pronunciation. This app has shown me that I CAN learn how to speak French!

Developer Response ,

Fantastic review. Thanks so much!
There are actually some people who learn French without our app, lol. But they could be learning so much faster with the sweet pronunciation tools we've integrated into the app. Have you tried tapping the microphones to either side of the dictionary search bar? It's a great way to test your ability to pronounce words correctly. Voice Translator does the same for entire phrases. There are actually three modes to use the microphone with Voice Translate. 1/ Tap to start, tap again to end speech input, 2/ Stop talking and app will assume end of input after 2 seconds, 3/ Hold microphone button down and start talking, release to end.
We really appreciate users like you that take the time to write reviews!
