The go-to card sorting app for teachers, UX designers, and visual thinkers. Create decks, group and prioritize cards on an open tabletop.
iCardSort turns your iPad into a hands-on card sorting workspace. Drag cards on an open tabletop, group them by topic, or rank them by priority — the classic card sorting method, reimagined for touch.
ORGANIZE YOUR WAY
Work in Group mode to cluster related ideas, or switch to Order mode to rank by importance. Cards that touch automatically form visual stacks, making patterns emerge naturally.
GREAT FOR TEAMS AND CLASSROOMS
Teachers use iCardSort for vocabulary exercises, categorization tasks, and group discussions. Product teams use it for feature prioritization, sprint planning, and stakeholder workshops. Hand the iPad around, or share decks afterward — no accounts or setup required.
SHARE AND EXPORT
Send decks via AirDrop, email, Messages, or any app that supports file sharing. Export multiple decks at once as a .icardsortz archive to keep your work backed up and portable.
MAKE IT YOURS
Customize card colors, fonts, text size, and backgrounds — per card or per deck. Choose from bundled patterns or use your own photos as a tabletop background.
POWERFUL GESTURES
Double-tap to add a card. Two-finger double-tap to add many at once. Drag to move, pinch to zoom, long-press a stack to fan it out. Every interaction feels natural.
ALSO GREAT FOR
• UX research and information architecture
• Brainstorming and visual outlining
• Workshop facilitation and design sprints
• Study aids and flash card activities
iCardSort is a focused, flexible tool — it doesn't tell you how to organize. It gives you cards and a tabletop, and lets your thinking do the rest.

If you are really strapped for cash and can't spring for Index Card, or if you know someone else with this app that you can beam ideas to, I suppose this may be helpful. For me the cards are too small, the interface is awkward not very attractive to the point of being distracting. I could not be productive with it because I felt I was constantly opening up cards to get details, and I couldn't nest them properly. So even for free, it wasn't worth it for me. If Index cards were my main tool, real-world ones blow these digital ones away. I did buy Index Card and it's already been far more useful than this was.
Very nice tool for brainstorming!

My first reaction was along the lines of “well, OK, that’s a cute idea”. But then I started to experiment with it and found this app to be extremely useful. In fact, I've already used it to work through a complicated prioritization exercise related to home improvement projects. For me, this kind of visual manipulation is perfectly suited for an iPad as opposed to other computing devices. A smart phone doesn't have enough screen real estate, a desktop would not offer any portability, and a laptop would be overly cumbersome to use for this kind of task (at least the way I envision it). But having this available as you walk around a work site can be extremely useful. Thanks for a great app!
Love the new changes

I upgraded just a few minutes ago and found the new changes of designing your own board with a photo or a plain color to be a wonderful addition. I quickly added one of my abstract flower photos and it allowed me to create and sort notes with a smile on my face. Why the smile? Often backgrounds are bland and boring, being able yo bring in a happy photo just changes your thinking.I also like the ability to add additional notes to my sticky notes. Sometimes you want the sticky to be more of a title than a detailed note. And I am glad that certain features like shuffling the deck and being able yo beam decks to other users is a great plus when using this for brainstorming.
Great for Teachers
Miss Teacher
This app is fabulous for teachers! You can use it for brainstorming, practicing spelling words and vocabulary. You can classify words by a variety of topics. It's perfect for teaching early literacy skills and doing word sorts for parts of speech or word families. Students will have a great time creating games for their classmates. The possibilities are endless The free version only allows you to create about 4 or 5 decks. If you are a teacher/parent and use your iPad with your students/children I think it's worth $9.99 to upgrade. If there were a way to change the color of the cards and the text, that would be a great added feature too! Thanks for this great app!
