Morning light crept through the curtains of Emi's Brooklyn apartment. Momo was already sprawled across her feet, doing his best impression of a throw rug. She reached for her phone and smiled at the notification waiting for her: "You'll find your rhythm today." A little note from herself, sent weeks ago. She'd stumbled onto HiFutureSelf on a rainy Tuesday night, restless and half-distracted. The idea was simple. Write messages to yourself, set them to arrive whenever you need them. Emi had a habit of forgetting things. Her grocery list for Trader Joe's. Feeding Momo on hectic mornings. Just breathing, sometimes, when the city got loud. She started small. A location reminder that pulled up her grocery list the moment she walked into the market. A gentle nudge to slow down right as she stepped out her front door. Little things that somehow made a big difference. The repeating reminders became part of her routine without her even noticing. Sip water, don't skip yoga on Thursday, check in with yourself. Momo definitely noticed the change before she did. She added a widget to her home screen, just a small one. Future messages sitting there quietly, waiting for the right moment to surface. Then one afternoon she thought of Kate. Her best friend who always seemed one bad subway ride away from a breakdown. Emi scheduled her a note for the following week: "Everything's going to fall into place. Trust yourself" and attached a photo of Kate mid-laugh, playing with Momo on the apartment floor. That evening, Emi typed one last message and sent it sailing into the weeks ahead: "You're doing just fine." She closed her phone and leaned back. Future Emi was taken care of.

This is a great & useful app. I use it regularly. Users should be careful not to overuse, or risk becoming dulled to the reminders. With some self discipline, it‘s very effective & useful. Seeing the continued increase in Alzheimer’s, Dementia & general brain fog, the app should thrive, and continue to develop & improve. To that end, I WOULD LOVE SOME NEW ALARM SOUND OPTIONS. I’d even pay for some. The current options (which haven’t changed in the ~couple years I’ve had app) are OK, but I wish there were double/triple the options, so I could set more unique reminders. I also wish I could PASTE PICS/SCREENSHOTS into the reminder text, so I could just use an image as a reminder, vs having to input the reminder through text only, which takes much longer. I use emojis to compensate, but those take longer than pics would too, and are limited.75% perfect app, 25% room for improvement. Having said all that, this IS a FREE app, and maybe other paid reminder apps already have what I long for.

And Now for iPad!Thank you to the developer for listening to my suggestion for an iPad version. Now works perfectly in landscape mode. This app does exactly what it says. Write yourself an email for a reminder sometime in the future. It will show up right when you need it.Updated update (yeah, I know): I was contacted by the developer who tells me that an update with iPad version + landscape mode is coming soon. Thank you.Review Update: I have completely stopped using this app because it will not work on an iPad in landscape mode. • Here’s a request to the developer (whom I have previously contacted via email on this issue). Please adapt this to iPad and landscape mode.There are a large number of people who would use this app if it would work in landscape mode. For any type of writing or written communication I use an iPad almost exclusively. I use a keyboard. I use something other than Hi Future Self that actually works.Previous review (was 5 stars):This app has been around for awhile, but now with and update. I have been using this for a long time. So far, I’m really enjoying this app. The current functionality should take care of what I downloaded this app to do, specifically. However, I was trying to think of other ways to use this app, and the first thing that came to my mind was a reminder to take the recycling out every other week. Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t see an option to set reminders over a custom set of time. In this instance, it would be biweekly. So every 14 days. I have zero expectations that something like this will be added, but just wanted to suggest it in case the developer is reading this and thinks it’s a good idea. Thanks for developing such a thoughtful app! 😊

Great app with just one problem

I like the simplicity and functionality of this app. It serves its intended purpose and I would like to rely on it. However, I have run into a problem with it. After I get a notification, I have to be careful to not accidentally enter the compose function. A common occurrence is for me to get a banner notification at the top of the screen, I swipe up to dismiss it and then later I discover the app isn’t working. I open it and see that I have somehow unintentionally entered the compose function, and as a result the app has stopped sending notifications. It would be great that either it is made less likely that I accidentally enter the compose function, or if the app continues to work even though I am in the compose function, or both. Would love to give 5 stars but I just can’t fully rely on the app working 100% no matter what
