Turn your iPhone, iPad or Mac into a coach's clipboard. Time up to 100 athletes, capture splits and finishes, track relays, field events and more.
RUNNING COACH'S CLIPBOARD
Put the stopwatches, paper and handwritten athlete lists aside.
Running Coach's Clipboard gives coaches, athletes, parents and running fans a powerful way to time races, capture splits, manage athletes and record results — all in one app.
Built for track, cross country, road racing, race walking and workouts, Running Coach's Clipboard lets you spend less time managing stopwatches and more time watching your athletes.
TIME UP TO 100 ATHLETES
Time and track up to 100 athletes in the same event. Record individual splits as athletes pass, capture finishing times with a tap, and follow the entire race as it happens.
Choose from a comprehensive collection of distances and events:
• Sprints and distance races
• Cross country
• Road racing
• Race walking
• Relays
• Workouts and repeats
• Metric and imperial distances
• Custom events
Select boys, girls, men, women or mixed competition, along with heats, semifinals and finals.
KNOW WHO YOU'RE TIMING
Build your own athlete database with names, teams, schools, notes and optional photos.
Quickly select athletes and assign them to events. Set up your athletes and events before a meet, then load everything when it's time to race.
SPLITS AND FINISH TIMES
Running Coach's Clipboard maintains a live record of each athlete's splits and finishing time.
Instead of juggling several stopwatches while trying to write times on paper, simply tap the athlete as they pass.
For longer races, optional audio announcements can call out the running stopwatch time so you can keep your eyes on the competitors.
BUILT FOR RELAYS
Create relay teams and assign athletes to individual legs. During the race, Running Coach's Clipboard follows the relay from runner to runner while preserving individual leg times.
FIELD EVENTS TOO
Running Coach's Clipboard isn't limited to running events. Record performances in:
• High Jump
• Pole Vault
• Long Jump
• Triple Jump
• Shot Put
• Discus
• Javelin
• Hammer Throw
• Weight Throw
For horizontal jumps and throws, record performances in metric or imperial measurements, including passes and fouls. For vertical jumps, track heights, attempts, clearances, misses and passes.
MISSED THE START?
Missed the start of a race by a few seconds? No problem.
The Late Start feature lets you start the clock after the race has begun and enter how much time has already elapsed. Running Coach's Clipboard automatically adjusts the race clock and athlete times.
RACE PREDICTIONS
Enter a performance at one distance and use the built-in predictor to estimate equivalent performances at other distances.
Multiple prediction formulas help coaches and athletes compare performances and plan workouts, races and goals.
SAVE AND SHARE RESULTS
Keep meet and workout results for later review, or quickly share and export them for use with other apps, spreadsheets and databases.
WORKS EVEN WITHOUT INTERNET
No Wi-Fi at the track or out on the cross country course? No problem. Core timing and recording features work without an active internet connection. Record the race now and share the results later.
MORE THAN A STOPWATCH
Whether you're timing three runners during a workout or keeping track of an entire team at a meet, Running Coach's Clipboard is built around one simple idea:
Spend less time managing the stopwatch — and more time watching your athletes.
The app is well made and is great in theory. In use it is almost worthless. Sometimes the app shuts down in the middle of practice. It is useless outdoor. The glare alone makes it virtually impossible to see. If you can overcome the glare you will have to sacrifice battery life to boost the brightness of the screen. Above all else my main issue with the app is tracking the athletes workouts. It's easy to arrange groups of runners and blow your whistle to start the interval for all runners. The issues arises when they are crossing the finish line. It is almost impossible to record accurate times because in order to stop the clock for an individual runner you either have to take your eyes off the runner so you can aim and touch his/her name on the pad or you have to blindly touch the ipad because you have to watch when the athlete crosses the finish line. This makes for highly inaccurate times. What's worst is if you are timing a 60m or 100m workout you have to rapid fire tap the names as the come across and there is no way to watch who crosses the line first and touch their names without looking at the screen. You will almost always miss the mark or touch the wrong name and record a highly inaccurate time. The app is well made but not very accurate in use. It looks and works impressively when showing someone but to use it at a meet or in practice is nothing more than a waste of time. If there was a way to fix this than this would be the greatest assets a coach could have. As it stands currently it is useless.
Love the idea...
CoachZem
I love the idea of this app, and if it worked as one might expect-- it would be the ONLY clipboard a track/XC coach would ever need...period. However, it is flawed and it makes you frustrated. The stop watch and individual buttons do not react nearly as fast as they need to in order to give instant/accurate splits during workouts. There seems to be a long (1-2 second) delay to the whole program. Also, I'd love to have a "split all" button, just like the "start all" and "stop all." This way you could time workouts much more effectively when you have more than 1 person starting a repeat. Otherwise the app is useless. At the very least, the ability to edit the text file that the splits are being dumped into would help to edit mistakes on the fly-- while the clock is running. The delay needs to be improved and some simple/intuitive features need to be added in order for this product to be worth what you pay for it. The way the app is now, it really should be free...
Great Potential, but . . .

I gave this a four. I would give it a five+ if the issues I describe are fixed.I used this app for the first time at last night's track meet. It was easy to enter the athletes and set up the events, although I couldn't figure out how to import my athletes. I love the concept and potential of this app, but found it difficult to time multiple competitors in the same event. The buttons are too small, especially the relay split buttons. Since there is no tactile sensation of pressing a button, I was often disappointed to find that I had missed the button or pressed the wrong one. When you are watching for the finish or the relay exchanges, you can't be looking at the iPad and this made it difficult to press the buttons, especially if you were trying to time two relay teams. It also crashed on me three times. When I reopened the app, the timer was still running, but it had messed up the splits. Each time it crashed it was when I pressed a button to record a split. I really like this app and would love to use it regularly, but until the crashing is fixed I can't rely on it. I would also suggest an interface change where there is a screen for set-up where you can make all the choices and then a screen for doing the actual timing which has bigger buttons. Part of the problem is that the program allows for 100 athletes which is great for cross country but overkill for track. But having that many competitors requires small buttons. Perhaps having the program adapt to how many entrants you have would help. Or for a quicker fix, I would suggest that the Competitors area on the screen be widened and the results screen be narrowed. The buttons for getting splits should be as large as the Start button since accuracy of touch is compromised by having your attention on the races.
Track Coach Must-Have!
eCoach
I took a chance paying the 10 bucks for this app, but it was money well spent. Easy to use and accurate to the 1/100th of a second. I love the ability to send recorded stats via email directly from the app. I use my Evernote email address to send results for record-keeping and archiving. This season, I've not taken a single sheet of paper to the Track. This app works great for meets as well as for practices. A great feature is the ability to edit timed results before sending them. I would encourage any Track coach at any level to go to the developer's website and check it out. I paid more for this app than any other for my iPad, but like most situations, you get what you pay for. So far, I have no regrets for investing in it.
