I see you are now switching to the subscription model, but there is no mention of that in the version update What's New" note for 8.0. I noticed the "Store" addition that says I am in Read Only mode and see in the main description of the app about the Subscription. The app appears to working as normal, but can only assume that won't last long. Can the developer please expand on what will happen to the users that previously owned the app?Update: Thank you for your response and providing more detail regarding the current users of your app. I have adjusted the rating on this great app.

Not configurable enough

Clean Text has its uses, but it’s not configurable enough. For example, you can’t select which “Actions” you want displayed, or rearrange them. ROT13? RaNDom CASe? The “Pseudo Text” actions? Useless, I don’t even want to see those. Another example, “Add Quote Prefix” inserts a “>”. What if I want to prefix my lines with a different character or characters, like “pipe space” (“| “)? There’s no way to tweak the “settings” of an Action, even inside a task. The title of my review pretty much says it all.It’s also odd to me that if I choose “Hide Clean Text” I have to go click something in the Dock to show it again. Seems like the menu item should toggle to “Show Clean Text”?It would also be nice if you could assign global hot keys to tasks, so if I copy something to hte keyboard, I could hit a key combo and activate a task that loaded the clipboard, did some “cleaning” and then moved it back to the clipboard so I could just Command-C to copy, Command-Control-C (or whatever global hot key you assigned to the ask) to clean, and then Command-V to paste in whatever app I happen to be in.

Thanks for reporting on the item menu to hide the app on the menu bar, we have corrected it for the new version. We are also working to include the possibility of disabling unused actions. As new versions come out we plan to add new features and customization possibilities.

This was an amazing super simple app for cleaning special characters, formatting, etc. from text pasted in on a Mac. It just worked. All of a sudden it’s gotten much more complex with AI, etc. BUT worst of all it cannot recognize that I purchased it previously and will not pay for it again. The Restore Purchases does nothing (says it can’t find my purchase but the App Store shows me when I purchased). I went to APIMac’s site and went to the support section but could find no obvious way to contact them. I am sure there is an open source tool that does this just as well without the complications, AI, and stopping me from using a product I purchased. If the company wants to offer me an older version without all the new fancy stuff and save that for new purchasers, I get that. But don’t stop me from using the tool I purchased before you put in a subscription model.

You’re absolutely right about one fundamental point: if Clean Text was purchased in the past, it should not stop working or ask you to pay again. That has never been our intention. Unfortunately, a real issue affected the recognition of some previous Mac App Store purchases, which can cause “Restore Purchases” to fail even though the App Store correctly shows the original purchase. We’re actively working on these cases and have already resolved many of them in recent updates. We’d also like to reassure you about another important aspect: Clean Text is still the same simple and reliable tool you’ve used for years. All the classic text cleaning and formatting features are still there and work as before. The new AI features are completely optional and clearly separated from the rest of the app (for example “AI Assistant” and “AI Edits”), and they do not interfere with the traditional use of Clean Text. I have been using this application for over 6 years, and I have to say. I love it. Clean Text has been a staple for me and my workflow for many years, and will continue to be for years to come. I am So glad it was finally rewritten, and Iove exploring all it has to offer. While this app was in need of some help, the functionality was totally acceptable for years and now it has the polish to make it even more easy and satisfying to use.Thank you Apimac for making this program and giving it an (albeit much needed) update!
