The images within are actual photos taken under a microscope of cells and structures of the brain. Inside the brain, there are more cells than there are stars in the Milky Way Galaxy, and more synapses than all the stars in the entire known Universe. Put them all together, and you have a living machine that decides your feelings, interests, what you remember, and who you love. It does all this while doing things you don’t even think about, like keep your heart beating, managing your body temperature, and even telling you that you’re hungry!
Scientists perform experiments to make different cells in the brain light up in different colors. This helps them to understand what the different cells in your brain do, how they work, and even how they contribute to diseases.
Who knows, maybe one day you can learn to make cells light up too!
But for now, enjoy the pictures!
