Pro Audio Converter is a fast, batch audio converter for macOS. Drop in dozens of files, pick one or more output formats, and let it run multi-threaded across every CPU core.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Multi-threaded batch conversion to several output formats in a single pass.
• Full metadata read and write, including multi-value fields and tags outside the standard set (MusicBrainz IDs, ReplayGain values, sort orders, and more). Cross-format equivalents are mapped automatically so tags survive the conversion.
• Tag editor mode. Update metadata on existing files without re-encoding.
• Custom output naming. Build output paths and file names from metadata fields like artist, album, and track number.
• Configurable sample-rate conversion (Mastering, Normal, Fast) and bit-depth dithering (TPDF, Noise Shaping).
• Smart content-based file detection. Audio files with the wrong extension, or no extension at all, import correctly.
• Raw and headerless audio support. Drop a .raw or .pcm file, or a Sound Designer II file whose resource fork has been stripped, and supply sample rate, bit depth, and channel count in a single sheet.
• Optional automatic add of converted files to the Music app.
• Native Apple Silicon support.

12 years and still kickin’
TLMuse
I was using Pro Audio Converter for the umpteenth time today, and realized it’s one of very few apps that I’ve had for longer than I can remember that has always done what I’ve needed it to do, without a hiccup. I had to check my MAS account to remember how long I’ve had it—I purchased it in early 2013, over 12 years ago. I’ve used it to convert many types of audio files, mainly to/from MP3 or AAC formats (with different specs). It was last updated about a year ago; that’s an impressively long run of continuous support. I figured it was about time for me to give it five stars!
Developer Response
It's nice to know people are still using it after all this time. By the way, I've been working on an update to make it compatible with Apple Silicone and modernize the codebase. Should be out soon enough. Thanks again.
Just what I was looking for
Djavabean
I was looking for an easy way to convert FLAC files to AAC so I could import into Apple Music. I was using some freeware but it didn't support AAC and required opening each song individually. What I really like about this is the setting that allows me to drag/drop a folder into the app and have it automatically add it to my Music library, complete with album art.
Error Log issues
Moriresvivir78
Just purchased this app and it is posting an error log whenever I try to encode my mp3’s to any format. I chose the files to go to its original source folder and a small screens pop out asking me to Allow Write Access. I select the Allow Write Access option and I get another screen that tells me that I do not have any write access permission. I am using a Seagate external Goflex to store my music. The Seagate also contains the music that I want to encode. Please help. This is my second day trying to use this app with no luck. Any suggestions would be great.
Did not work...

Claims to support SD II format, but the app would not recognize such files, at all. It may be that it will let you SAVE files AS SD II, but it's unlikely that anyone would intend to save as such as old, un-supported format. Anyway, I needed to access existing SD II files, bought this app to do that, and it doesn't. Tried on Macs running latest Monterey, and another on Sierra. Tried saving as WAV, AIFF, and other combos. No luck. One more crucial thing: I emailed the deisgner, to ask if there was a fix, or if I had missed something - AND I HAVE NOT GOTTEN A REPLY. Save your $.And Apple, if you're reading, it would be nice if you had someone check what you're selling...
- Now recognizes recovered Sound Designer II files that arrive with a ".sd2f" extension.
- WAV files now use a standard header that older hardware samplers can read.
- Damaged or partially downloaded files now stop with a clear error instead of quietly producing a near-empty file.
- A failed save no longer deletes the existing file at the destination without putting a new one in its place.
- When a save replaces an existing file, the old version now reliably goes to the Trash, even when its name contains spaces.
- Interrupted conversions no longer leave large temporary files behind, and any leftovers from an earlier crash are cleared at the next launch.
- Fix an issue where certain files could fail to encode to MP3 on older versions of macOS.
