The new First State Community Bank mobile app is a huge improvement over the previous version. The old app was buggy, unreliable, and often locked me out for no reason. This new version, though? Smooth sailing so far! It’s been stable, easy to navigate, and I haven’t had a single crash or glitch. It’s clear a lot of thought went into fixing the major pain points.The only feature I miss is the ability to add comments to individual transactions. That was super helpful for keeping track of spending, so now I’ll need to get back into the habit of balancing my checkbook the old-fashioned way. Still, that’s a small trade-off for an app that actually works as expected. This missing feature is the only thing keeping this new app from being earning the same 5 stars my local branch scores! Kudos to the dev team—this upgrade was long overdue and very much appreciated!

A mess.

I’m not sure how this bank is ranked #1 anything to be completely honest. The app barely works, it’s like your developers don’t even know what they’re doing. IF the login screen will even load, most of the time it won’t actually log in. The screen will be stuck on a loading emblem when it is not actually loading anything. Other times it will act as if it’s loaded the login screen when there isn’t even a button to log in and force closing and restarting the app does not fix it. I have to login to online banking to view my account and extremely obnoxious amount especially considering you have an app for a reason, so why for 4 years has this been the same. The app gets updated to look more sleek but the function stays crap. After 10:30 pm my account always reflects some wonky number, I understand system maintenance but never in my life has a bank account become a mess during the night for maintenance. There have been warm holds out on my card for absolutely no reason bc of me using the app to lock it before. Customer service is not 24 hours whatsoever yet there are articles online stating you can receive help anytime. If you can choose a different or better bank, do it. I’ve not had any security issues but it’s ridiculous this bank is so advertised as being ranked #1 in my state before yet the nearest location is 30 minutes away in a small town, customer service takes forever, the app is a mess and spotty, and everything moves extremely slow if you have to encounter the actual bank.

Generally the app does as it’s meant to. It even has an option to make savings accounts within your existing checking account. It’s pretty convenient not having to save money separate from my checking account. Unfortunately, after roughly 8pm the app is practically useless. You can go through the motions of making money transfers from your checking to savings account, but nothing actually happens and the app will still show the same amounts in both accounts that was there prior. Additionally, you can’t trust the amount shown in accounts after 8pm. I don’t know what’s wrong with the app, but the number I’m shown as my balance at night is never correct and when I check my transaction activity, all of my transactions are shown, but the amounts are made up by the app to arrive at the incorrect conclusion previously given. I don’t typically have time during the day to check my balance, so I usually handle my banking at night, making the app far less useful to me with it only working sometimes.

I absolutely love banking here but this app is a nightmare. After my card was hacked and dealing with the stress of fraud (which the bank was amazing at calming my nerves and straightening everything out) I have to keep my card locked to feel safe and secure. There is no way to go online and unlock my card, only through the app. If there is an emergency or I’m trying to pay a bill or checking out at the store, it is an absolute mess trying to functionally do so without having to hold up a line to call in and stay on the phone so they can lock it back when I’m completed with my purchase or payment. At minimum 3 days a week, the app is inaccessible. Again, I love banking with First State but this app needs a lot of attention and work.
