If you’ve used the copy/paste functions in Mac OS before, you’ll appreciate how valuable Get Plain Text is! We use it ourselves every day. This app will lower your stress level and save you tons of time!
---Ready for Yosemite!---
Get Plain Text is a practical utility program to process text within Mac OS: It converts copied text into plain text.
It instantly removes everything unneeded: colours, typeface size, style (for example, boldface/italics), hyper-links, images, etc. In other words, everything that isn’t plain text! Now you can put plain text in your letters and documents using the copy/paste functions, without having to clean it up manually.
Get Plain Text will convert any bit of text into plain text, no matter where you copied it from (a website, PDF document or elsewhere). You can activate the feature manually, or check “Automatically remove formatting” to make the app take care of it every time you copy something.

Use the Automatic Feature

One of those silly little utilities that I can’t live without. Right now, I’m trying to share an article from Quora but I don’t want to use Quora’s Share thing and give them my friend’s email address, so I’m trying to paste the article into my email instead. It pastes as a giant square link. Hit the Plain Text button and there you go - plain text. I use this a lot more than I expected to. Thank you developer for a tiny but essential tool!Update: I finally turned on the feature “Automatically clear formatting”. WOW! Instead of clicking the icon every time I want to have clean text, it’s all automatic. Now I can freely copy/paste anything and never have a hassle with web page junk or anything. Did I mention I really like this app?
So simple and so perfect

I’ve been using this app since 2012. I really don’t think I could use OS X as happily as I do without this program. It removes any potential of formatting issues between programs and it’s helped me clear up some formatting that “Clear Format” just didn’t clean for some reason in Office. Apple needs to buy this company and integrate this functionality.I love that the company keeps the program working with updates to OS X. I’ve never experienced any issues. I was really worried that it might break as some of my other favorite apps have (namely TotalFinder) due to the security features introduced in El Capitan.
Feature Request

I really like that I can set a shortcut to use this app to strip formatting. That is so useful. My feature request is this: I want to be able to copy a file and then strip the file away and still have the file name in my clipboard. This is my workflow: 1) I copy and paste a file into an email. 2) I copy and paste the filename into the email right above the file and then add a comment about the file. — what I want is that instead of going back and copying the filename that I use the shortcut to strip the file away and still have the filename in my clipboard. Right now when I copy a file to my clipboard and then use your app to strip it nothing happens. Maybe it could be a feature that gets toggled on or off in the preferences?

I have been using Get Plain Text for years now. Since I started working on a Mac, I’m constantly copying and pasting between different apps, and often find that the original formatting doesn’t match the destination. Get Plain Text is incredibly useful for this exact problem, removing all unwanted formatting with a single click. It’s become an essential part of my workflow, and I now install it on every new system right away. I use it daily, and it’s easily one of my must-have apps for the Mac.
