PocketCAS: Graphing Calculator
Graphs, derivatives, 3D plots
Free · In‑App Purchases
Graph functions, find derivatives in one tap and see results as your textbook shows them, all on your device. Unlock steps, integrals and the solver with one purchase.
PocketCAS is a graphing calculator for iPhone and iPad. It graphs your functions, finds derivatives and works with exact fractions and roots. Everything runs on your device, so it works without internet or an account. An in-app purchase unlocks PocketCAS Pro, with steps, integrals and the solver.
Graphs
- 2D plots of functions, implicit equations, polar and parametric curves and vector fields, two functions per plot. PocketCAS marks zeros, extrema and intersections. In full screen, tap a mark to read its coordinates.
- 3D surfaces with soft light and shading. Drag to turn them, pinch to zoom.
Derivatives
- Under each function, a suggestion shows its derivative, already worked out, and a small plot sits beside the result. Tap one to add it to your document.
- Exact derivatives of products, quotients, roots and chains, written the way your textbook writes them.
Exact results
- Arithmetic with exact fractions and roots, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions.
- Matrices: determinants, inverses and products.
- Your own functions, with conditions and recursion.
- Common units and physical constants.
Reads like your textbook
- Results look the way they do in a textbook: fractions, roots, powers and matrices.
- A math keyboard with every function in reach, and a hint shows what goes between the brackets.
Made for daily work
- Documents keep your calculations and plots together, and iCloud syncs them between your devices.
- Export and print plots, entries or whole documents (with a watermark).
- Help built in: the function reference explains every function with examples, and tutorials get you started.
Unlock PocketCAS Pro
One purchase in the app unlocks everything in PocketCAS Pro, without a subscription: calculation steps that name the rule behind each step, integrals, limits, series and sums, equation and system solving, factoring and simplifying, eigenvalues, differential equations, scripts, plots with more than two functions, imports of documents and CSV data, larger matrices in the editor, exports without a watermark, and suggestions with zeros, extrema and integrals. Family Sharing is included, and Restore Purchases is in the main menu. Until you unlock it, the function reference marks the functions of Pro with a PRO badge. PocketCAS Pro is also sold as its own app; you need only one.

more This useful math program is styled like working on a sheet of paper. The key advantage is that, unlike working in a calculator app, when you're done you can have something printable that makes sense. If you use it more than a little the app can benefit from a keyboard. It reminds me of MathCAD by MathSoft from the 90's (sold to PTC, 32 bit Windows only.) The free version of this app doesn't do some of the more complex things that a working engineer or engineering student might need, but for anyone else its complete and there really is enough to work with to decide if its enough,

I am an engineer! But I am now celebrating my 90th birthday. Big deal! I am still enthralled with the fact that I can still figure things out. And numbers matter, so with your help, the things that I design still fit together and work.Muchos Gracias,Joe Baumoel

Enjoyed using this app extensively, however recent app update broke functionality - constantly crashes when loading my old work that worked fine before update. No debug or feedback to tell you why it crashed.
Developer Response Hi, sorry that you are experiencing issues! In particular, PocketCAS should never wipe your existing documents, but iCloud problems can do that. Could you please reach out via https://pocketcas.com/contact so we can help you resolve this issue?

PocketCAS now supports iPhone Duo.
On iPhone Duo:
- Open in landscape, and your document sits on the left page. The right page holds the editor with the math keyboard, or a plot.
- Tap a plot in your document to open it on the right page, next to your calculations. When you edit a plot, it redraws as you type.
- In full screen, a plot's buttons and legend sit in the vertical bar, out of the plot's way.
- Open in portrait or in tabletop pose, the text is on the upper half and the keys are on the lower half. In tabletop pose, a plot stands on the upper half, with its functions, the traced point and the value table below it.
- If you want the document across both pages, choose Wide Document in Settings > iPhone Duo > When Open.
- Closed, PocketCAS works as on any other iPhone.
On every iPhone and iPad:
- With a hardware keyboard, Tab moves to the next argument only inside brackets. Elsewhere it types a tab, so you can indent comment lines again.

2026.3 3d ago
You can now unlock PocketCAS Pro right in this app. This update also explains results without a value, makes large numbers easier to read and fixes a number of smaller things.
New in version 2026.2.1:
- The launch screen shows the PocketCAS π again. In version 2026.2 it was blank.
- The main menu's row for the purchase is now called Upgrade to PocketCAS Pro.
- When a numeric search finds no solution, the gray line below it now says that such a search can miss solutions.
New in version 2026.2:
- Unlock PocketCAS Pro in the app with a one-time purchase, without a subscription. It adds calculation steps, integrals, the equation solver, hundreds more functions, and bigger plots and matrices. Family Sharing is included, and Restore Purchases is in the main menu.
- Under a result you now see every suggestion. Some come with PocketCAS Pro, and a tap on one shows how to unlock it. The same goes for a Pro function that you type.
- When a result has no value, PocketCAS now says why, such as Undefined or Not invertible, often with a short reason below. A typing error is marked in the input, and a suggestion offers the fix: sin x becomes sin(x). A stopped calculation shows how long it ran and offers Calculate Again.
- Next to an exact result, the ≈ line now also shows the decimal value of a result with units. Very large and very small numbers read as 2.43 × 10¹⁸ instead of 2.43E+18, and when rounding changed a decimal result, the suggestion Exactly shows the exact value.
- Results and inputs show large numbers in groups of three digits, such as 1 234 567. Settings > Digit Grouping offers another separator, or none. The editor and copied text keep plain digits, and a number too long for the screen continues on the next line.
- On iOS 26, the titles of What's New and the welcome pages are no longer cut off at the top.
- On an iPhone in landscape, the Tools menu shows all its tools without scrolling.
- Plot Settings show a swatch next to each color, and a color that is not in the list appears as Custom Color.
- VoiceOver reads ( and ) as parentheses instead of braces, and selecting entries in Select mode works as expected. The German and French texts are clearer.
- The previous version of PocketCAS still opens your documents. It shows the new reasons as plain text next to the result.
Changes from version 2026.1:
- Under a function's result, suggestions show its derivative with the answer, and a small plot sits next to it. Tap one to add it to your document.
- Results look like a math textbook, and long results wrap to the width of the screen.
- Clearer 2D plots with a finer grid, and 3D surfaces with soft light and shading. Plots in a document pan, turn and zoom right where they are.
- A new keyboard look, with your recent functions right above it.
- A short welcome for new users, and the function reference now lists every function, with a PRO badge on the ones that PocketCAS Pro adds.
- On iOS 26 and later, PocketCAS uses Apple's new design, Liquid Glass, and has a new icon.
- Brackets close by themselves.

3.10.3 11/27/2017
The bad news: The previous version of PocketCAS had a few crashing bugs.
The good news: Our new crash-reporting system helped us find them more easily.
The better news: This update fixes them!
New Feature (iOS 11): Drag-and-drop support! You can now:
- Use drag-and-drop on the sides of entries to re-order them.
- Drop text onto PocketCAS' entry list to create a new entry with that text.
- Drag-and-drop a formula inside PocketCAS to create a new entry with the formula's text.
- Drop an image onto a 'Calculation' entry to attach it to the calculation as an image annotation.
- Drag plots outside PocketCAS to export them in transparent PNG or PDF format. (The exported type can be configured in the application settings, but also depends on the receiving application.)
- Drag formulas outside PocketCAS to export them in transparent PNG, PDF, or text format. (The exported type can be configured in the application settings, but also depends on the receiving application.)
New Feature (iOS 11): File management! PocketCAS uses iOS 11's new document picker. This lets you create subfolders, save documents anywhere you like, tag them, browse them in the Files app, and more. The file browser will even show thumbnail previews of the first entry for documents that have been edited with PocketCAS 3.10 before.
New Feature (iPhone X): PocketCAS will fully support the iPhone X's display from day one.
Improvement: PocketCAS should now remember your last-opened document more reliably.
Improvement: Increased the default accuracy for 2D graphs.
Improvement: Slightly improved the quality of 3D graphs, especially when exporting them on macOS.
Improvement: PocketCAS will now display variables in the entry editor in italics as soon as you declare them with ':=', even before you actually execute the calculation that sets them.
Improvement (Mac): Added a hotkey to search the function list in the entry editor.
Bugfix: Fixed a few bugs in the computation kernel (CAS).
Bugfix (Mac): Fixed crashes under OS X Mavericks.
You might be wondering why there's no entry "Added support for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro's display" in here. Well, that display was supported by PocketCAS right out of the box!

3.10.2 10/12/2017
Remember that issue we mentioned in yesterday's Release notes for PocketCAS 3.10 where tapping a keyboard button would open a new, blank editor? Guess what — we were able to reproduce and finally fix it :-)
So here comes PocketCAS 3.10.1 with a fix for that and the following improvements from PocketCAS 3.10:

3.10.1 09/30/2017
PLEASE NOTE: We had occasional reports where tapping buttons on PocketCAS' built-in math keyboards would open a new blank entry editor under iOS 11. For us, these issues disappeared completely once we rebooted our devices. Unfortunately, this also meant that we could no longer reproduce (nor fix) these issues. In case they still occur for you even after a reboot, please let us know so we can investigate them together!
New Feature (iOS 11): Drag-and-drop support! You can now:
- Use drag-and-drop on the sides of entries to re-order them.
