A new look On iOS 26, the map controls, the place card and the menu float on Liquid Glass over the map. On iOS 18 you get the same layout in frosted materials. Spacing, corners and sizes now follow one scale based on the golden ratio, so every screen lines up with the next. The map controls sit together in one column at the top right, out of the way of the map. Screens, redrawn Menu: every item has its own coloured icon, and rows respond as you press them. Welcome: each feature has its own colour. Tools, saved places, favourite categories and GPS Photos have cleaner rows and cards. The GPS Camera has a new shutter button. AR navigation, the motion readouts and empty screens are restyled to match.

Version 4.1 is about places without a signal: more of Global Locator now works offline, and the parts that need a connection no longer keep you waiting. Works without a signal - Offline place names: with no connection, the GPS Camera stamp names the nearest town or village, with the right flag. Saving a favourite suggests a name from the nearest place. The street address returns when you're back online. - Mapcodes are now worked out on your iPhone, with the Mapcode Foundation's own library. They work offline, and your position is no longer sent to mapcode.com. Batch Convert reads mapcodes straight away. - GPS Quality shows the satellite sky plot. - With no connection, maps say "Offline". Place names, map thumbnails, missing parts of the map, the camera's address and map, and orbit data fill in by themselves when the connection returns. Maps - Retrace, track maps, Field Logs and GPS Photos now use the base map you choose in Settings, including OpenStreetMap and OpenTopoMap. - Map areas you've viewed before appear at once, instead of waiting on a slow connection. - Favourites thumbnails follow your chosen base map. Fixes - The GPS Camera could get stuck on "Stamping…" with a weak or no connection. A photo now waits a few seconds at most for its address and map, and you can cancel if stamping takes a while. - PDF exports from Field Logs and GPS Photos no longer hang on a weak connection. - On a poor connection, place names, map thumbnails and orbit downloads now give up after a short wait instead of spinning.

Global Locator 4.0 is the biggest update yet. TRACKS Record your route in the background, even with the screen locked. Every track shows distance, moving time, speed, elevation gain and an elevation profile — and Retrace guides you back the way you came. Import and export GPX, KML and CSV. GPS CAMERA Photos and video stamped with coordinates, address, altitude, heading, time and a mini map, in four templates. RAW and Camera Control support. GPS Photos shows every shot on a map and exports a PDF report, CSV, KML or KMZ. OFFLINE MAPS OpenStreetMap and OpenTopoMap with contour lines join Apple Maps, and areas you view stay available with no signal. Add a UTM/MGRS grid overlay, and see your favourites and tracks on the map. NEW TOOLS Waypoint Projection, Distance & Bearing, GPS Averaging, GPS Quality with a predicted satellite sky plot, Formula Solver and Puzzle Tools for geocaching, Batch Convert, QR code exchange and Proximity Alerts. MORE COORDINATE FORMATS Irish Grid, Dutch RD, Swiss LV95, US State Plane, ECEF and UTM by hemisphere — 19 formats in all — plus optional Mapcode. ALTIMETER GPS and barometric altitude, air pressure and its trend, and QNH calibration, with a live readout of speed, heading, course and magnetic declination. NAVIGATION Spoken guidance with the phone in your pocket, including off-course warnings. A Live Activity keeps the distance on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Choose true or magnetic north, and bearings in degrees, mils or grads. FAVOURITES AND FIELD LOGS Colour-coded categories, photos on favourites, and corrected coordinates for solved puzzles. New Field Logs keep timestamped notes and photos, exported as PDF, CSV, KML or KMZ. WIDGETS, SIRI AND SHORTCUTS Home Screen, Lock Screen and StandBy widgets. Ask Siri for your coordinates, altitude or the distance to a favourite; save where you parked, start navigating, record a track or take a GPS photo. Open the camera from Control Center or the Action button. SYNC AND BACKUP Favourites and tracks sync with iCloud. Backup & Restore puts everything — favourites, photos, tracks and settings — in one file for moving to a new iPhone. ALSO NEW Share any point, or open it in Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze. Separate altitude and speed units, adjustable MGRS precision, your own track colour, and a welcome screen that explains location access up front.

Now in 25 languages Global Locator is fully translated into Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese, alongside English. That includes the parts usually left in English: the 16-point compass rose, following each language's own convention rather than a letter-for-letter copy of N/NE/E; all 83 built-in cities and their countries; the spoken AR guidance; and the permission prompts. Arabic and Hebrew lay out right to left — except the compass dial and the AR turn arrows, which deliberately don't flip, because left still means your left hand. Coordinate systems keep their standard names. UTM, MGRS, USNG and DMS are international standards, and a translated grid reference would be a wrong one. Pick your language inside the app You don't have to change your iPhone's language to read the app in another one. Choose it in Settings and the app switches straight away — including the city list, the compass points and the spoken guidance — and it's still there next time you open the app. Leave it on System to follow your device. Settings rebuilt Settings now uses standard iOS controls throughout, so it works properly with Dynamic Type, VoiceOver and both appearances. Each option explains what it does underneath it, and choosing High GPS accuracy no longer interrupts you with a warning to dismiss. Fixes Light and Dark now apply to every screen, including Settings itself, which used to stay on whatever appearance was set when you opened it Changing the language now reaches every screen immediately, not just after a restart The app's name on your Home Screen appears in your language

**Corrected coordinate accuracy** MGRS and USNG grid squares were calculated incorrectly in every earlier version. They are now verified against reference data worldwide. Please re-check any grid reference you wrote down or saved before this update. Saved favourites keep the text that was stored at the time, so older entries still show the previous values. Latitude and longitude were always correct. Also fixed: UTM coordinates in the southern hemisphere now convert back to the right place, UPS coordinates use proper zone letters, and DMS coordinates can finally be typed in — that field previously rejected every entry. **Longer battery life** The app was running several location and compass sessions at once. It now runs one, which noticeably reduces battery drain, and the AR view and favourites list are both much smoother. **Fixes** - Malformed coordinate input no longer closes the app - The map no longer snaps back to your position while you're panning - The favourites star now removes a location as well as adding one - Your distance unit from Settings now applies everywhere - GPS accuracy setting now takes effect on first launch - AR display settings are now reachable - Fixed a crash when sharing
