Horcrux lets you automatically backup your mails from any IMAP supported email accounts with great ease. The best part is, you have an option to restore the backed up emails to any other email account, retaining all your tags/folder hierarchy.

Appears not to work with Gmail anymore
nemock
I’ve had this app for several years and absolutely love it. Recently, though it appears that Gmail has decided it is a security risk and as far as I can tell, there is no way you can use it to back up your Google accounts anymore.
Developer Response
Google has arbitrarily blocked us. We're working with them to resolve this.Update: It should be working now.
Avoid, especially if you have MS accounts, or use with caution

Updated for: 4.2.3We've reviewed this app a number of times over the years, none of those reviews positive. However slowly it improved, due to ongoing issues it was probably a 3 star form its original zero (reported as 1 as Apple don't allow zero!).A year ago it released "beta" support for Microsoft accounts using the Microsoft Graph API, warning there may be issues.Microsoft is in the process of shutting down "basic authentication" for mail accounts with final shutdown announced for mid-September. So Horcrux support of the Graph API should be good news, but it isn't...As of today an Outlook account using the beta support for the Graph API will randomly fail, any nested folders are simply missed, top-level folders just stop working, Horcrux downloads new messages but never updates the index so you can't access them...For non-Microsoft accounts Horcrux is a lot better than it used to be, but the archived messages counts still often vary from the counts reported by the source mail servers or Apple Mail. If the counts differ and you've a lot of email figuring out what is missing and why is a challenge – and not the sort of task you should need to be doing with a backup app! There have been no updates for almost a year maybe this is now abandonware...So our previous recommendation remains: If you need IMAP backup you would be best looking for another solution. If you are using Horcrux and have Microsoft accounts you *need* another solution ready before mid-September.
Useless when it crashes
iFixconsulting
Leaves you in the dust when it crashes. And it crashes a lot. Tried it on multiple systems. When ever it comes across an email it doesn't like it just dies. You're totally left hanging in the middle of a migration and you don't know where it died. I'm sure the developer "has never experienced this.." blah blah blah. But in this day and age, I just need something that works. I don't need to beta test their stuff for them. In the future try your product on some REAL mail migrations, not just the small stuff in your lab. Don't use me as your guinea pig. I don't appreciate it, especially when I paid a decent fee for this to just work.
Much improved

With the update to Horcrux that was released on Sept. 9, I’ve had a successful backup every day. The developer claims to have reduced memory usage by 90%, and that seems to be true. My computer no longer crawls when a backup is happening. At this point, I would say that Horcrux works well and, if it doesn’t, the developer is open and responsive to feedback.
- Fixed a bug in Microsoft 365 where not all email folders were fetched
