Description

The New City Catechism is a modern-day resource aimed at helping children and adults alike learn the core doctrines of the Christian faith via 52 questions and answers. The New City Catechism mobile app makes it easy to take all of the questions and answers with you wherever you go—for free!

The app pairs each question and answer with a Scripture reading from the ESV, a short prayer, and a devotional commentary written by contemporary pastors, including John Piper, Timothy Keller, Kevin DeYoung, and others.

The app also includes a short version of each answer and kid-friendly songs designed to help children memorize the entire catechism.

Features:

• 52 catechism questions and answers related to God, humanity, sin, salvation, and more
• Devotional commentary on every question and answer written by respected pastors and church leaders
• Short prayers to accompany each question and answer
• A children's mode featuring short versions of each answer and quick access to kid-friendly songs designed to aid memorization
• Related Bible passages drawn from the ESV

The New City Catechism is a joint project of the Gospel Coalition and Crossway.

Love this app! A few bugs though.

Love this app and all the content it provides! It seems like there are some issues with the media player. I’ve discovered that I cannot access the media player for single questions from the bottom bar unless I click on the “prayer” icon first, then click the bottom x to exit, then click the media icon to bring up the media player for the single song. Also, sometimes when playing a song from the All Songs list, I have to click to proceed to the next song instead of it automatically playing the next song in the list. I think it used to proceed automatically, but would skip from the current song I played, to the latest song on the list that I had ever played. Maybe that bug is fixed but the fix was to eliminate auto play all together 😔. The auto play would be a nice feature to add. Thanks for all the hard work! 💪🏼

Excecution of content needs work

This app is great for having all content accessable in one spot. However, it will only let me play each song only once. There is no way to start over unless I completely exit the app and get back in. If I pull up the full song list, there is no way to go back to the normal screen unless I shut down the app and get back in. It's a lot of unnecessary steps. Kids need repetition to learn, so being able to repeat without unnecessary steps would be nice.

Great as Devotional

The way this catechism systemizes the core doctrines and beliefs of the Gospel and the way that it also protects against heresies by being absolutely grounded in scripture is absolutely astounding. Aesthetically, it’s rather lovely bc of the color coded sections and the little animations that accompany every question is pleasing to the eye. Practically, it’s easy to use and every time you open the app after refreshing/restarting it, it opens at the last question you left off at, which is rather awesome considering that if it didn’t, you’d have to scroll and try to remember where you last left off. Definitely a huge blessing to the modern day church and I hope it’ll be in use for quite some time
