Mr Word challenges you to a word game with added personality. Even more so, now that Mr Word talks back.
This update sees the following enhancements:
- Mr Word chats with you during 1 player game play, just like a real human opponent
- Improved dictionary (uses the Oxford English Dictionary if installed)
- more consistent AI gameplay
Choose 1 player or 2 player modes, and enter your name to begin.
In 1 player mode, you are playing against Mr Word himself. Featuring Genuine People Personality, Mr Word will really give you a run for your money.
Choose a difficulty level, Easy, Medium or Hard, then Mr Word will choose words that a real human would choose (his vocabulary increases in Hard level), and respond to your move in seconds - great for rapid fire play. Now even faster than before.
If you make Mr Word think for longer than a few seconds, you are doing really well!
Mr Word will even "spellcheck" your words as you lay them, so you know in advance whether the word you are playing is acceptable.
Also featuring the Define button - instantly brings up word definitions for all words played. High quality, Apple-supplied dictionary of over 100,000 words. Features definitions from the Oxford English Dictionary so you can learn new words and their meanings every time you play.
In 2 player mode, your Mac becomes a high quality fullscreen board game, with the added benefit of spellchecking to avoid arguments about valid words.

After the Tahoe upgrade

I really liked this game, may it rest in peace. After downloading Tahoe 26.2 th game is frozen. Bummer because Mr Word was a great game. There is a version Mr Word 2 but Word 2 stinks. Word 2 doesn’t expand and a subscription is mandated. Not worth paying again and again for a game occasionally played. No App (game or any app) is worth constantly paying for.

I was playing this game, although with a little frustration, for a while. I learned to live with its limitations such as the inability to trade in tiles or refusal to accept my words I knew well as valid but accepting those same words from the computer. Then I upgraded to Tahoe on Saturday night. On yesterday (Sunday) it froze on my screen. No warning; it just stopped, leaving my last game up. Apparently it now costs ninety-nine cents. Really not worth it. I tried again, though, and paid the 99 cents. I still can’t access the game, so forget it.

The game is designed so that the computer can pick any word, even breaking the rules, like foreign words.Second issue is the computer player is designed to win by blocking. A very unsportsmanlike tactic (and quite boring). Third issue is there are words that are apprpriate like el or en or jo that are not allowed for the human player. Very poorly designed game. I’m glad I only spent 99 cents.
Not a great Scrabble substitute

I miss my Hasbro Scrabble computer game, but it won't play on my MacBookPro. Mr. Word is OK, but it will not let me use words I know are valid and are in the Scrabble Lexica that I also bought. It also won't let me use a lot of 2 letter words that Scrabble used to let me use, and are valid words. I feel Mr. Word is a bit buggy, and sometimes crashes.
